The Maze Runner (Newt x Reader Fanfic)

Chapter 2

Kaya came out in a dark green dress that looked almost like a really long shirt. Underneath it she had on black leggings and used sandals. Her hair was let down, and her guitar was slung over the back of her shoulder. Newt looked at her in awe as she came out of the Homestead.

"You look beautiful." He could barely take his eyes off her. Kaya smiled, but soon jumped when a loud BOOM rang in the air. Suddenly, the doors that led to the Maze started to shut, the ground rumbling like an earthquake. Newt saw the look of horror spread across Kaya's face as the doors sealed shut.

"Kaya, are you okay?" Newt was concerned by Kaya's frightened look.

"We're stuck... in here... all night..." She could barely get the words to come out.

"Hey, it's okay. I'm not going to let anything hurt you. Why don't we go meet up with the others at the fire pit?"

"Okay. Yeah, sure..." Kaya still looked a little dazed as they went to the blazing fire in the distance.

All of the other Gladers looked over at Kaya as she and Newt walked over to where Minho and Alby were standing. Newt noticed and started getting annoyed.

"Bloody shuck off already, and go look at Teresa like that." he said, irritated. Kaya laughed, which made Newt smile at her, as they continued walking. Alby and Minho were interested in what was going on when Kaya and Newt approached.

"What was all the klunk about, Newt?" Minho asked.

"They were giving Kaya googly eyes, that's all. Told 'em to quit their buggin' staring."

"Kaya? Oh, she has a name now?" Minho raised an eyebrow. Alby looked at him, apparently annoyed.

"Minho, stop it. She just got here and the first thing you say is 'she has a name now'?"

"Come on, Alby. You know I'm just kidding. Anyways," Minho glanced at Kaya and looked her over, impressed. "Hello cutie," Newt rolled his eyes when he heard this. "I don't believe we've met. Name's Minho, I'm Keeper of the Runners."

"Runners?"

"Yeah. We run the Maze each morning, map it out. From the time those doors open to the time they shut."

"Is it scary?"

"Scariest thing you can do here, but that's what makes it exciting. That and the Grievers."

"Grievers?"

"Huge spider-slug robot things that sting you and make you go crazy. We have to give you the Serum, which gets you back to normal and gives you back your memories." Minho glanced at one of the walls as Kaya looked over at Alby.

"You must be Alby, then." she said

"That would be correct." Alby gave Kaya a slight smile as they shook hands. Newt noticed Gally walking over.

"Gally, this is Kaya, she came up in the Box today. Kaya, this is Gally, Keeper of the Builders."

"Hello. Well, she's the prettiest we've had come up here, that's for sure." He held out his hand for her to shake. It was obvious that Gally liked her. Kaya blushed and shook his hand. Newt glared at Gally, but so that the others couldn't see.

"She looks pretty strong, gotta be smart, what job is she going to try tomorrow?" Gally asked.

Alby and Minho both spoke at once. "Runners."

Newt was furious. "What? No. That's the most dangerous job out there! No way."

"What, you think she can't fend for herself? Besides, I'll be out there with her. Don't worry about it." said Minho.
