Chapter 20: Safety First!

Marinette's P.O.V.

We kept running till we reached the end.

"So, what now?" Adrien asked.

"We wait. There should be something arou-" I stopped and put a finger to my lip. It was quiet. TOO quiet. Just a second ago, we could hear the assassins in the tunnels. They had stopped. My friends looked at me, puzzled.

"Why'd you stop? Is something wrong?" Chloe asked. I didn't want to worry them.

"No nothing, just come with me." I led them to a hiding spot underneath an old wooden trapdoor, covered in dust and camouflaged with a layer of leaves and dirt. It wasn't a small space but it wasn't too large either. What if I was next to Adrien? We would have to be squished together! I felt myself blush. 

"Hey Marinette? Are you feeling ok? Your turning red..." Adrien says as he put a hand on my forehead, probably seeing if I had a fever.

"N-no I'm fine..w-we need to get in here. Now." I struggled to say. He really was clueless wasn't he? I heard Alya, Chloe, and Nino snickering. I glared at them. They laughed even louder. 

"This way! I hear them." I heard someone say. 

"Quiet! They're coming we need to get in NOW." I don't know what I would do if we got caught. We climbed in one by one. We sat close together in the corner. I sat in between Alya and Chloe, I wasn't brave enough to sit near Adrien. 

"ACHOO!" Chloe sneezed. They're sure to have heard that! Guess I can't blame her, it IS really dusty in here, it hasn't been used for years now. 

"A-Alya?" 

"Yeah?"

"T-There's a spider..." Nino said. He was arachnophobic.

"Close your eyes, this'll be over soon...I hope." Alya replied. Alya's so brave, I'm not fit to be a princess at all....

"Guys, I hear footprints" (A/N: Yeah it's supposed to be footsteps but this is too funny to edit lmao) Adrien whispered. We held our breath until we heard the trapdoor open and close.  Whoever had come in had a flashlight.

"Over here! They're right here!" I heard a girl say. 

"Mari! Are you here?" A different girl said.

"Who's there?" I asked.

"MARI!!" I see 5 girls running. As they came closer I recognized them.

"Caitlyn! Melanie! Willow! Aria! Luna! Is that really you? What are you doing here? It's not safe! The assassins are here! They'll kill you guys too!" I said.

"Hey Mari, are those the girls that you introduced us to at your school?" Adrien asked.

"Yup!" I said smiling. 

"Yes, we came to rescue you, we came as soon as we could." Aria said.

"Yes but what are you doing here?" I asked.

"Girl, we wouldn't miss your coronation for the world! After all, you came to Caitlyn and my coronation didn't you?" Luna said.

"Wait a minute. They're royalty too!?" Nino asked.

"Well duh, our school is for royalty and rich people." Caitlyn said.

"Huh, I didn't know that." Nino replied.

"Anyways, come on! They're already in the palace so we can head to the safe house." Melanie said. 

"But my parents!" I don't want to leave them behind! The thought of losing them to those..those...BARBARIANS!

"Don't worry! They're being escorted to a safe place to hide until they can come to the safe house as well." Aria said. I nodded. We exited our hiding place only to find that we were surrounded by assassins. I froze. 

"B-but I thought they were in the palace!" I said. This isn't good. Not at all! I can't let my friends die!

"And how did they know we were here? Only the 5 of us know of this plan!" Caitlyn said.

"Unless..." Melanie turned to look at us.

"Unless what?" Chloe asked, hiding behind Adrien as the assassins were closing in on us.

"We have a traitor amongst us, and by us I mean the 5 of us." Melanie said with a fierce gaze.
