Trey walked back towards the street where he and Mia agreed they would meet. He looked around, searching for Mia's long, brown hair and dark eyes. Suddenly he felt a tap on his shoulder. He froze, and slowly turned around, praying that Chase hadn't seen him and followed him back here.
But it wasn't Chase. It was Mia.
Trey sighed, relieved, as Mia asked "Where were you?"
"Burgling a house, obviously" lied Trey smoothly.
"Well how come there's no money in your pockets?" said Mia smugly
"How do you know there's no-" asked Chase but Mia butted over him
"I pick pocketed you. Or at least I tried." She said, grinning.
Trey smiled, impressed. "you're getting good at that."
"But where were you?"
"Ok" said Trey, and he quietly told her everything he knew.
When he had finished, Mia was gaping at him, her brown eyes scared.
"But now I know this.."
"Yeah. If Chase finds out how much we know, he'll kill us, too."
They walked home, whispering their thoughts to each other and hoping that Chase would accept the little money they had stolen today.
Trey walked up to the door, swallowed, and knocked the code. The door opened, and there stood Chase, looking....different. His eyes were narrowed, and his mouth was turned down into a frown.
He held out his hand, but didn't examine how much money Mia gave him. Instead, Chase let them into the house, staring out onto the streets, like he was thinking deep thoughts.
Trey and Mia nervously walked towards the table and sat down with the rest of the gang.
Chase walked over to the table, and announced "Tomorrow, I have something different planned. Trey and Mia, since you two have been so good at house burgling, I've decided that you will burgle the head policemans house."
The gang began whispering, and Mia and Trey looked at each other fearfully. The head policemans house was probably the most secure house in the town, but also had the most valuables. This would be a very hard burglary.
Trey stood up to protest, but Chase gave him a hard glare. Eyes narrowed, Trey sat down, thinking.
He must be onto us. This is going to be the most dangerous burglary ever. He thinks that we'll get caught, and be killed, and then no one will know his secret. Chase glanced at Mia, who was looking nervous but determined, and knew that they could pull this off.
Trey went to bed early, not worried that Chase would kill him while he slept, but anticipating the next day, and avenging Jakes death.
