Red Crandall

This next day, it's the first time I get ready in such a short time. I watch to intercept Drogo to clarify two or three things about our relationship. It takes me no more than a quarter of an hour to shower, dress. Then I take care of Lorie. Fortunately, she's well-tempered. I let her finish getting ready by herself, before going down the stairs four by four to the dining room, where I'm stopped by a clearly grumpy Nicolae.

"Well Red! Mind your manners! Why are you such in a hurry?"

"I... Uh...I'm looking for Drogo, it's about this course that we have in common. I wanted to ask him a question... Well, you know what..."

"No, I don't know! For two people who don't like each other, I'm surprised to see how much time you spend together."

"We're just studying together. No need to kick up a fuss about it!"

"They've discovered a mutual love for literature." I don't like Peter's sarcasm, nor Nicolae's suspicion. It's complicated as it is just dealing with Drogo.

"Very funny, I see today is an off day!" Peter does indeed have that melancholic air that often characterizes him. He is on the defensive and I don't appreciate what he's hinting at. Okay, maybe I'm not obliging, either.

I walk away, waving goodbye from afar.

"I'm going, Lorie's on her way down."

"But... Aren't you having breakfast?" Nicolae

"No time! See you tonight!" With this, I rush into the hall and hurry out of the house.

I hope Drogo isn't avoiding me. What if he regrets what happened yesterday? Or even where our relationship is going. I hope he's not going to put the arrogant vampire mask back on. I drag my feet towards my first class of the day. Maybe I'll find him at lunch time.

Suddenly someone grabs me by the waist. I'm not exactly in the mood. I try to struggle and start insulting the unwelcome person when I hear a familiar laugh.

"Well, what a temperament little thing! Who ever would have thought it!"

"You idiot! I've been looking for you all morning."

"I thought it's best to avoid breakfast. Nicolae suspects something." I give him an eloquent smile.

"I did the same thing, except I told him loud and clear that I was looking for you."

"You really do look for trouble, don't you?" Before my desolate look, he hugs me tenderly and seizes my lips with a passion that he can't contain.

I prefer to hold myself back from kissing in the corridor. I don't want to be the talk of the town. He looks at me for a moment, then takes my hand and invites me to follow him.

"Where are you going? What about the class?" Drogo shrugs his shoulders.

"You'll catch up on it." I'm not sure. I don't usually skip off. Even if right now I'm dying to.

Drogo patiently waits for me to decide.

"It's up to you little thing. A few very boring classes, or a morning of pure fun in my company?" What a cheek! But he's right. I follow him without hesitation.

We don't go very far since he guides me up to the trees in the university park. He sits down and entices me to do the same. I love this side of him, this demonstrative and tell side. I naturally take refuge in his arms and shamelessly let myself be kissed. I feel like I'm becoming carefree again. I feel... Happy!
