Strangers
Three knocks came at his door. DJ opened it to see the one woman he thought he'd never see again. The woman he once loved more than anything. Sabine Wren.
"How may I help you ma'am?" he asked her. Part of him hoped she didn't recognize him. Another hoped that she would.
"I'm sorry to bother you sir. It's just my ship crashed and I need somewhere to stay for the night. Some of the locals said that you tended to take in strays and help them out." Sabine answered. She looked into his eyes and almost did a double take as the sapphire blue eyes meet hers. "I'm sorry you are DJ right?"
"I am." he replied pouring her a glass of blue milk.
"I'm Sabine Wren."
"I know who you are. I'm well familiar with many people who were part of the rebellion," he handed her the glass. "Especially members of the Ghost Crew."
"Funny, I don't recall a DJ. You do look a little familiar though. Were you part of the rebellion?"
"Indeed I was."
"May I ask what DJ stands for?Perhaps it might help me place you."
"Dev Jarrus," DJ replied without a second thought. He regretted it immediately.
"Jarrus?" Sabine asked. "I only remember one person with that last name. He died though."
"Must be some relative."
"Kanan didn't have any relatives. Only his wife, Hera and adopted son his Padawan Ezra." Sabine snapped back. "Matter of fact the only person I knew that ever went by Dev was Ezra when he was undercover."
Sabine looked back at DJ's sapphire eyes. He knew that she recognized him just because of them. If only he had been blinded all those years ago instead of Kanan. Then this problem wouldn't be an issue. Sabine couldn't recognize his eyes if their unique blue had turned to gray, but then he couldn't see her Beauty either.
Once they were strangers.
Then they became friends.
Later they became lovers.
What where they now though?"You can't be. Ezra died with Kanan." Sabine said as if that was a fact that she never questioned. She had though. She remembered him saving her and coming back with her when Kanan died. Still when she woke up in the med bay later she was told that he didn't make it back. Maybe that last kiss wasn't a dream after all.
"Is that what they told you?" DJ asked with a slight laugh. Part of him was glad to know that to the people he had cared about the most thought Ezra Bridger was dead. To them DJ was just a stranger. In truth he was someone they once knew and missed.
