Hera saw the explosion. It was one Sabine would have loved, but that was the last thing on Hera's mind. She hastily pressed the com to call her crew member inside.
"Ezra, please tell me you're out of there!" She said into the comm.
There was no replay just static from the other side.
"Ezra pick up." She repeated with worry lacing her voice more each time there was no response.
"Hera? Ezra..." Kanan came in saying.
"I'm trying to reach him. Either his comm is jammed or..." she responded but was interrupted by Kanan.
"Hera he's hurt. Badly since I can feel it like I am." He said.
Hera turned around to look at him. One hand was placed on his head as if he had a headache. He was also bent over in pain and clutching the other arm close to him.
"Zeb, Ezra was caught in that explosion. I need you to find him and bring him back." Hera ordered into the comm.
"On my way now." Zeb answered on the other side of the comm.
It was only a matter of minutes before he comm back.
"I found the kid." He said.
"How bad is it?" Kanan asked.
"Not good but he should live." Zeb replied.
"Just get him back on the Ghost and I'll take a look as soon as we get out of here." Hera said.
"I'm already half way back. The kid's gained weight." Zeb answered.
"It's that bad that you're having to carry him?" She asked.
"He's unconscious. From what I can sense a concussion and a few broken bones. The blast knocked him out." Kanan answered for Zeb.
"With how close he was when I found him he's lucky to be alive. No one around him was. I don't like the look of his arm though." Zeb confirmed. "Oh and we're back."
Kanan took off running to the med bay. Hera closed the ramp put in the coordinates and made the jump into hyperspace. Leaving Chopper to watch she went back to check on her youngest crew member.
Once she got to the med bay the sight was horrible. Ezra had all kinds of cuts and bruises. His arm was definitely broken but also had a large gash that almost ripped off his hand. There was also a head injury that was still bleeding and wound probably need stitches. Hera immediately went to work patching him up and doing scans to see what else needed to be treated. Kanan had been right. Ezra had a concussion, three broken bones, and a cut above his ear that went down to the bone. The medics back at base were able to save his hand but he would still be out of the field for a few months. For now he was still unconscious though.
It had been three days since the blast and word about the extent of Ezra's injuries got out quickly. Kanan almost never left the med bay. The Ghost crew had no idea how far it had gotten out though.
"Good evening General. Commander Bridger has woken up." A rebel informed her.
"Is that all?" She asked.
"Actually there's a ship requesting permission to land. The pilot didn't have clearance codes, but used the code name Spector 5."
Hera froze, it had almost been a year since they had used that code name. Her crew now went by the code name Ghost now. "Sabine?"
"She said it was urgent that she spoke to your crew. Someone from Phoenix squadron said it was your crews old code name."
"Let her land. She's a member of my crew that's been away on an extended solo mission. We switched bases before she returned." Hera demanded.
"Yes ma'am. That is all." The rebel trooper replied.
"Then I'll be in the med bay. Escort Sabine there." Hera said then sprinted to the med bay. She busted through the doors to Ezra's room.
"She's back." She yelled.
"Sabine?" Ezra asked in a raspy voice. "I thought I sensed her." He moaned tiredly and tried to get up from his bed.
"Ezra, as glad as I am to hear your voice again, you just woke up and are recovering from an explosion." Kanan says pushing him back down.
"Don't worry. I asked for her to be brought here. There's no way I'm letting you leave this place, and if she's coming back now she probably heard already." Hera replied.
Just then they heard a conversation though the door.
"You know a 'hello Zeb, how have you been? Nice to see you again' would be nice Sabine." Zeb said.
"Not now Zeb. I need to see if it's true first." Sabine said.
"Oh it's true. The kid's been out cold for three days." Zeb said.
"Well then you wouldn't mind if I saw him for myself then." Sabine snapped back. The doors opened.
"What you trust me anymore?" Zeb asked pretending to be offended as they walked through.
"I never said that." Sabine said turning on her heals to face him before either got a glimpse of the other three. "I have always trusted you Zeb, with my life. I always will. It's just this is Ezra and he's hurt. Excuse me if I want to see him before I catch up with the rest of you."
"I'm not sure whether we should be offended or not, love." Hera said to Kanan.
"That the closest person we have to a daughter wants to visit my padawan over visiting us. Oh I'm offended. Maybe it's those blue eyes." Kanan teased.
A pillow hit Kanan on the back of the head despite no one being behind him. Ezra smiled with his eyes closed.
"Or maybe she just missed me more." He rasped.
"Ezra?" Sabine said turning back around and running to him. She threw her arms around him and hugged him. "Zeb said you were out cold."
"No one told me he was up. I didn't even know you were back until I saw you." Zeb replied. Then he turned to Ezra. "Good to see you awake again kid."
"Sorry Zeb. I must have forgot to tell you in all the excitement." Hera apologized.
"Don't look at me. I haven't left here." Kanan said.
Sabine pulled away from the hug.
"You look horrible Ez." She teased.
"Well what I'm I supposed to look like. I just woke up after three days following getting severely injured." Ezra replied.
"How long have you been up anyways?" She asked.
"I'd say only about half an hour." Kanan answered for Ezra.
"I found out he was awake at the same time I found out you were here." Hera replied.
"You know you didn't have to wake up just because I came to visit." Sabine said teasingly.
"So that's why you woke up?" Kanan teased him. This time he caught the pillow before it hit him. "Only reason I'm letting you get away with this misuse of the force is because I know you're injured and suffering from a concussion."
"Guys, I know I just got here, and Ezra just woke up but do you mind if we can have some time alone?" Sabine asked.
"I guess we can let you two catch up. Meet us back at the Ghost later and we can all catch-up." Hera said before ushering Kanan and Zeb out.
"But I can't leave him alone like this." Kanan objected.
"He's not alone love. Sabine's with him." Hera replied.
"You'll be ok without me?" He asked Ezra.
"I'll be fine." Ezra replied.
The door closed leaving the two youngest alone.
"I went home for a year and you almost get yourself killed." Sabine laughed.
"Not like I did it on purpose." Ezra replied raspy.
"I think you did it to get me to come back."
"Not intentionally, but mission accomplished." Ezra smirked.
"It certainly was." Sabine replied sitting on the edge of his bed.
"I think they are out of hearing range." Ezra whispers.
"Good I've been waiting to do this for a while now." Sabine said. She leaned in closer to him. Her lips a millimeter away from his. The she kisses him. He returns the kiss. Then she whispered against his lips, "I missed you, Ezra."
"I missed you too." He replied and kisses her again.
This time her lips parted licking his bottom lip asking for permission to enter. He granted it and allowed his tongue to explore her mouth as well. They made out for a few minutes.
"I should probably head to the Ghost since the rest of the crew is waiting on me." Sabine said.
"How long are you staying?"
"Until you're cleared. Someone needs to fill in while you're out of commotion. Tristan and I can take turns going on missions."
"You brought your brother?"
"Mom insisted. What she does know is it means we get more time together."
"I love you Sabine."
"I love you too Ezra."
Then they kiss again.
"When you are cleared remind me I few solo missions for you." Sabine whispers to him.
"Will do. Now you better go or the others will get suspicious." Ezra replied.
"They are going to be so disappointed when they find out I'm only back temporarily." Sabine said.
Ezra just smiled. No one knew that the two of them had been keeping in touch, or that they now had a long distance relationship. As far as anyone in the rebellion was concerned they saw each other as brother and sister. In reality they had been so much more than that for over a year now. It had been months since he last held her though. Months since she had been this close. No one had known that the secret informant that insisted he do a solo mission alone was really her, or that they had seen each other since she left the rebellion. Even Kanan didn't suspect anything between anymore.
