Year 382 of the Gorlund Calendar – Frost Fall Day 3

5 Months Later

I jumped behind a rock just as a fire ball came flying overhead. We were fighting a small 20 year old D class rated fire dragon (Very young) about 8 meters high and 10 long. This Dragon breathed fire in short bursts, having to wait 5 seconds to recharge, that was its weakness.

This is the first Dragon my group had fought. After 5 long months of brutal training we seem to be handling this pretty well. I looked around the rock to see Ethan dodge a fire ball at the last second and Steph was circling the beast to try and find an opening. I spotted a ledge that was high above the dragon and decided that I could use it. "Guys I need you to keep it busy, I've got a plan" I shouted to Ethan and Steph, they both nodded indicating they understood and trusted me. I sheathed my sword and placed my shield on my back and began climbing. As I climbed up to the ledge Ethan used his armored fist to bang against his shield to catch the attention of the dragon. I reached the ledge and for the first time I noticed the chill in the wind. Well it is frost fall I thought to myself. I looked down and saw a opening on the dragons neck. I unsheathed my sword and faced the blade down, I jumped, as I fell I whispered the words Fere de (Die by flames) and the Pendragon sword burst into flames before I plunged it through the dragon's throat. The Dragon roared out in pain as the magic flames were much hotter than its own. The dragon's head hit the ground, smoke coming out of the mouth, it was dead.

I jumped off the dragon to be met by my friends who had very impressed looks on their faces. "Well done Kassandra" said Ethan. "Yeah really well done" said Steph excitedly. "Oh it was nothing special, plus I would not have been able to do it without you guys" I said trying to sound sincere, but I was worried I could sense someone watching us. I looked around but could not see anyone. I might be going crazy or they can use cloaking magic.

After taking some Teeth and Scales from our first dragon kill as a souvenir we mounted our horses that we could call with a whistle, we the rode back to the training camp. We were first ones back even though we had received the most difficult task out of all the cadet groups. "Well I guess the other groups are having trouble with their assigned dragons" said Ethan looking smug. "Ughh that really has ego" I whispered to Stephany making he giggle. "What's so funny?" asked Ethan. "Oh nothing really" said Steph smiling.

After putting away our armor we headed over to the command building to report in our success. I lifted my clenched fist to knock on the door... "enter" said a deep voice that I did not recognize. My squad entered to find the Commander and Captain both standing in front of a much larger man fully clad in the finest armor. I noticed an insignia on his chest plate marking him as a highly ranked member of the Dragon Slayer Guild. My body reacted on instinct and I gave a very stiff salute, my friends followed suit as they made the same realization a few moments after. "At ease" said the mystery general.

"well you're the first ones back, no surprise there seeing as you're our best cadet squad, well not for much longer" said the Commander turning to face us. We all looked very puzzled. "I have important business to attend to but this man over here will explain everything" said the Commander as he and Captain Drake turned and left the room.

The high ranking, armored person standing in front of us stepped forward and proceeded to take off his helmet which revealed long, brown hair, shocking green eyes and a hardened face with many scars but as my group saluted again a gentle, friendly smile touched his face. "Now, now no need to salute so often once is good enough" said the General laughing. "Yes sir" said all of us together. "You all remind me of my days as a cadet, now onto business, I am General Octavian Aticcus but you call me Brutus as a nick name, second in command of the warrior clan within the Dragon Slayers Guild. I already know all your names so there is no need for further introductions." Said the General. "But sir we Haven't finished our training" said Ethan pointing out the obvious. "Well from what I have heard and seen your little group seems to be able to handle itself" said Octavian. What he said sparked realization in my mind. "Then it was you who was watching us when we were in the canyon." I said. "I'm very impressed Kassandra, you were able to notice me even though I was using a cloaking spell. Well I would expect nothing else from a Pendragon. Yes, it was me and might I say that you all fought very well" said the General. "Thank you, sir." said Steph and Ethan.

"Well, sir what is it that you need us for" asked Steph. The General smiled. "Eager to get to it, eh? Well we are currently underhanded with soldiers to help with the increase in demons, monsters and dragons. Since you are evidently god enough to be able to handle a mission in your own, I have decided that we the warrior squad could use you on an important mission. Of course, seeing as you will become official dragon slayers if you choose to accept you will obviously be paid well." Said the General looking expectantly at us. I looked behind me to see Ethan and Steph smiling from ear to ear. "Well sir I think I speak for all of us when I say that we accept your offer." I said and the rest agreed with me. "Good you can have the rest of the day off to pack and tomorrow at sunrise we will depart for the Warrior regiment's base of operations in the city of light and please if you are going to be working under my command no more calling me sir, Brutus is fine" said the General "Yes sir!" shouted all of us together. That made the general laugh.
