We mounted our already saddled horses and took the road that would soon lead us to the city of Albion. From what I hear Albion is much larger than Vestolia and they are famous for hosting grand tournaments every few weeks, luckily for us we would be arriving during the middle of one such tournament. There were many different types of prizes that you could earn, from equipment to large sums of money, for completing many different challenges.
We arrived in Albion much sooner than we expected, it was just after midday and there was a buzz of excitement among the townsfolk. I asked for directions to the sign-up boards here we could enter ourselves into whatever challenges we wished to take. The Phoenix's all signed up for the Battle Royale, which was a fight of ten knights where we would start off with nothing but our armor and shield. We will fight in an arena 500 meters by 500 meters, the first group of five will enter from gates 100 meters apart, the second group will do the same only five minutes later and we would have to find weapons amongst foliage and other objects.
"Well sign here so that if you die no one at the tournament will be held responsible" said the man at the sign up desk and I signed the sheet of paper. He went through the same process with Ethan and Steph. "The Battle Royale will begin in ten minutes, please put on any any all armor needed and move to your assigned gates" announced a loud voiced man from atop a small stage. My squad turned to face each other. "May the best knight win" I said before turning and heading to gate one.
Ethan and I would enter the arena at the same time and set 300 meters apart and Steph would enter with the second group . Meaning I had to go through two other knights before meeting up with him. Of course there were no rules that said we weren't permitted to team up and have a one on one Deathmatch in the end but where's the fun in that I thought to myself. On the other hand I could get a weapon and wait out the other knights as they tired each other out fighting, but I was never one to cower away from a good fight. "Let the match begin" shouted an announcer from within the arena. The massive gate opened and I stepped into the arena to be greeted by the shouts of a crowd that was at least a thousand strong. "And here we have a first timer calling herself the black knight, but will she have the power to take down the undefeated champion Demon" said the announcer and the crowd started shouting abuse at me. "You'll never win against the Deimon" shouted one of the onlookers. "Your fancy armor stands for nothing if you don't have the skill to back it up" shouted another. I ignored them and went in search of weapons. I must have moved about a hundred meters when another knight spotted me in between the broken down buildings and stared running towards me, short sword in hand. I had not found a weapon yet, but I fancied my chances against him because he did not seem to know how to use a sword properly. I turned a corner and he followed me, but I quickly struck out with my shield, bashing him in the face and knocking him down. I grabbed the short sword from his hand while he was still stunned and held it to his chest. As he came around he noticed what a predicament he was in and held his hands up in submission. "And there goes the drunken knight" said the announcer. "Whoooooooo" shouted the crowd. With that knight, out there were only two others excluding Ethan. I wonder how he's doing.
Ethan's POV
I jumped back dodging side swipe of the other knights spear and I brought my shield down breaking it in two. I quickly scooped up the sharp end and stabbed the other knight in his thigh causing him to scream out in agony, as he dropped to the floor I pulled out the spear and ran into a small and crumbling building in search of a better weapon, I passed a knight who had been killed by the one who I had injured. I stopped to close his eyes before running off again.
*Toot* a bugle went off as the second group of participants where signaled to enter the Arena. That would mean that Steph will be entering the arena right about now, I hope we can fight soon.
