Steve's POV:
It's been 3 months since my wife left me for good. But I was fine my sister Theo is married and she has her own house. Shirley and her husband are still together. And Luke is officially 3 years clean. Life is going good besides my wife leaving me. I decided I did want a child and I was going to raise it alone with the help of my siblings. I've been on a waiting list but today's the day I finally get to go into the orphanage and pick out a child. I drove over there with a lot of confidence. I arrived at the orphanage and sat in my car for a few minutes. After sitting for awhile I got out of my car and headed inside I was greeted by a lady who I've been talking to on the phone.Me: "Hello Carol."
Carol: "Hi Steven. I'll take you to the children's room."I followed behind Carol and saw a bunch of children. The one who caught my eye was a older girl reading my book hill house. I pointed to her.
Me: "What is her name?"
I asked.
Carol: "That's Maggie. She's been in a lot of bad homes before she ended up here. She has depression and takes pills for it. She's read all of your books and is a huge fan. If you don't adopt her at least say hi it'll make her day."
Me: "Of course."
I headed over to Maggie and sat next to her on her bed.
Maggie: *Gasps* "You're Steven Crain! I'm a huge fan. I've read all your books I wanted to go to your book signing last month but I couldn't afford it."
Me: "Aw I'm sorry." I pull out a pen. "Here I'll sign all your books."
Maggie: "Oh thank you!" She hands me her books.
I sign them all one by one and them back to her.
Me: "Which is your favorite?" I ask.
Maggie: "Definitely Hill House. How's your siblings?" She asked.
Me: "They're wonderful." I replied.
I headed back to Carol.
Maggie: "Goodbye Mr. Crain!"
Me: "Carol I want to adopt Maggie."
Carol: "Are you sure sir? She's fifteen and has depression though. I can show you some other-"
I cut her off.
Me: "I am sure carol I see a bright future ahead for her. She has a lot of potential."
Carol: "Ok Mr. Crain. Maggie pack your stuff up please. Mr. Crain is adopting you!"
Maggie: "BEST DAY EVER!"
Me: "Steve is fine. And thank you."
Carol: "Of course follow me to sign all the paperwork."
I nodded and followed Carol back into her office to sign paperwork. I signed every single paper I had to sign and trust me there was a lot of paper. I finally finished the paperwork and Carol gave a death stare.
Carol: "Steven Crain? Do you promise to take care of Maggie and be by her side no matter what? Do you promise to provide her a loving house hold and keep in your house as long as your alive?"
Me: "Yes I promise."
Carol: "Maggie is now officially a Crain! Congratulations sir."
Me: "Thank you."
Carol guided me back to where Maggie was.
Carol: "Congratulations Maggie enjoy your new home."
Maggie hugged Carol.
Maggie: "Thank you for everything I'll miss you."
Carol: "Me too."
I let them say goodbye and we headed to the car Maggie put her stuff in the trunk and we went inside the car. We put on our seatbelts and headed home.
Me: "Would you like the radio on?"
Maggie: "No I hate modern day music."
Me: "Yeah me too."
We talked for awhile she told me she wants to be a author of course I was happy with that. She told me what college she wants to go to and that she didn't really like school because the kids were mean to her. We finally arrived at home and we unloaded the car and headed inside. I got to keep the house when my wife left which I was very happy with.
Me: "I'll show you where your room is. My sister Theo is coming tomorrow and she's gonna help you redecorate your room how you like it but for now it's just really plain."
Maggie: "That's ok. I can't wait to meet Theo does she really have powers?"
Me: "It's complicated but yeah."
