The gasoline jug splattered onto the ground when being let go of, flooding the floor with its transparent yet strong yellow colour.
The axe that Lisa held onto was lifted into the air, and before the body could even move itself as it held onto her, it was brought down and slashed a deep cut through the woman's - zombie's chest, it was repeatedly done so until the cold hand around her ankle let go and lifelessly dropped to the ground.
Her chest heaved up and down quickly, her mind blank and her body trembling. Nothing came to mind -
The slurred moans behind her were heard and Lisa was quick to look over her shoulder, she caught glimpse of the hand of the zombies that were walking back and making her stand up. She had to make a choice: It was either running out of there to save herself, or she could quickly grab hold of another gasoline jug and saving three lives all at once.
But Lisa was panicking. And only the thought of saving herself came to mind. She ran towards the other side of the store quickly while tears finally slid down from panicking too much and made a sharp turn, having her hands grip onto one shelf and bringing it down with her weight as she sped down the aisle.
Dodging the cashier counter, pulling the door open, she was about to dash through the light and into the darker road when she came to a unexpected halt and harshly having her body collide onto another one. Lisa lost her balance again and fell to the ground, she felt the axe slide away from her hands and the sounds of it fading further away from her.
"What...!" She let out before her heart was almost caught at her throat when seeing how far the red axe had been from her and one of the zombies - the little girl, now facing her way and dragging her feet towards Lisa.
She was unarmed, her only weapon being the axe that was only an inch away from the little girl, the female knew her limits when it came to combat and also, knew she was hopeless. She was ready to scurry away from there, whimpers leaving her lips as she tried to make her body stand up besides shaking so much.
But then, the sound of something shooting - a bullet cut through the air and a hole on the little girl's head was made, its impact clear when seeing her take a step back before falling to the ground, but the slurred groans of the other zombie could still be faintly heard. Lisa had gone rigid. What just happened?
Hesitantly, her head turned, her eyes glancing and now looking at the person behind her. A male. His hands were still raised into the air and holding a handgun, as the girl continued to stare up at him, incredulously, she saw how his index finger pulled quickly onto the trigger, having her hands come to cover her ears this time to minimise the noise of it. After a few seconds, she looked forward to see the other zombie was taken down, too.
She hadn't reacted at all - she was too frozen until having a hand land on her shoulder, and her body jumped, a shriek escaping her lips when Lisa quickly scrammed away from the male behind her. Her scared eyes looked at him, his own eyes were wide in shock of her actions before he raises his hands.
"It's alright," He says. "There are no other zombies around here - for now." His gun was placed down into the side of his hip. "Are you okay?"
Lisa did not know how to react, she continued to stare at him, she didn't know why but she couldn't say anything. It felt as if her words were all lost for a few minutes.
But she swallowed down the knot on her throat, hands coming up to swipe away her tears, uselessly as they continued to roll down. "Yes..." Her voice trembled as she answered as clear as she could.
"Are you by yourself?" Yerim and Sooyoung came to mind. Lisa shook her head. "Where are they? Your group."
"... I left them in a car, down the road..." She answers, now trying to stand up. "I came down here to get gasoline..."
Voices could be heard from outside the store. "Changkyun!" One shouted out. "Everything clear?"
"Yes!" Changkyun shouted back. "Just one girl inside."
And he then quickly helped Lisa collect herself from the ground, her head bowing slightly as her eyes focused on the ground. More footsteps were heard and they also came into the store. She looked up to see a group of three boys - and a girl among them. Most of them looked close to her age.
They eyed her curiously and the girl in between them looked at her with worry. "You look all shaken up..." She referred to Lisa's running tears. "Are you by yourself?"
"She said she left her friends down the road, she came to get gasoline." Changkyun answered for her.
The girl with long, wavy dark brown hair with very few lighter streaks from the top nods. "Okay, what's your name?"
"Lisa." The young girl's voice trembled as she answered, her hands coming up again to wipe her tears. "Lisa Manoban."
"A foreigner, huh. Nice to meet you, I'm Kim Jennie." The female smiled. "Let me handle her, Changkyun. You and the boys get what we came here for." The male nodded before walking away from Lisa.
The girl looked up to see them going into the aisles, getting everything they could get into the bags they carried on their backs, casually going over the dead, rotting bodies. Lisa slowly found her breath coming back to her, her body slowly stops trembling and she faces Jennie who looked their way with a blank expression.
"How are you so prepared?" She breathed out, having the girl face her way. "You look so composed... how?"
Jennie giggled. "It might've been too many movies I've watched with them." She joked, but upon seeing the taller girl's still terrified look, she became a but more serious. "But I was scared, too. Just as you are now. But I was together with a few of them when we noticed it all." So that can make it less scary...
"You said your friends were down the road?" Lisa snapped away from her thoughts and nodded. "How many of the are there?"
"Two." Jennie hummed.
"If you want, we can give you guys some shelter." The younger female's eyes went slightly wide at the offer. "We already have a... well, I guess we are at somewhere safe for the time being. We can take you with us."
As much as earlier that day, she thought a big group would be a hassle, the female was considering the offer in deep thought. They had weapons - that could be extremely useful, Lisa was already breaking down the moment she lost hers. She worried for her two friends that she came on the journey with, if that were to happen again, she was sure it'd be the end.
She would be risking lives. And she most definitely didn't want that to happen.
It felt as if a huge wave of relief washed over her. "... Really?" Tears brimmed her eyes, not waiting another second to pour. "Can you really?"
"Of course." Smiled Jennie. "We're stuck in this together - might as well help each other." And with that, Lisa broke down. The older girl quickly hugging the girl who was now on her knees and thanking her so many times it made Jennie become flustered.
