"Wonderful work, ACP Raizada and Inspector Gupta. You nabbed the dealer of the gangster in just one attempt. Your spirit and talent is admirable, especially Ms. Gupta, for a first timer in disguise, you were amazing. Keep the good work up!" praised their Chief, Commissioner of Police, Atharv Thapar.
"Thank you, Sir."
Their synchronized response made them glance at each other momentarily before diverting their attention to their senior seated in front of them.
"Remember that you have just accomplished the first step in apprehending the Boss. Don't let this success get to your head. Interrogate the dealer and get the information out of him. Don't worry about the resources, I will get them ready for you. But I want results. I want this ammunition supplier to be busted as soon as possible," ordered Atharv, rotating the paper weight on the table as he eyed intently at it.
"Sure, Sir. We will get the information required. We just want assurance that we will not have any interference of any sort from any authority," demanded Arnav, with a firm yet respectful tone.
"Done," approved Atharv, looking at Arnav with knowing smirk on his lips.
"Jai Hind Sir!" greeted Arnav and Khushi in unison as they rose from their seated position to exit the cabin.
They had arrived for the briefing about their further actions after a hectic day of gruesome legal procedures of verification and custody and their working hours for the day had ended. Being thorough professionals, Khushi and Arnav kept their personal bitterness away from their work but with the end of their working hours, they knew that the bitterness was going to seep back its way.
"Let me drop you to your house," offered Arnav, knowing that Khushi had no means of transportation at her disposal, especially from the Office of Commissioner of Police, where she did not know anyone.
"There would be no need of that, Sir. I can manage on my own," she replied, noticing the glint dancing in his eyes which hinted her that his intentions were not that he was showing through his actions or words.
Without uttering another word, Arnav made his way towards his car in the parking while Khushi walked to wait near the road for any other means of transport. She preferred auto over Ola cabs and so did her meager salary.
"Such an insensitive person. He acts as if he cares and offered me lift. Did not even try to persuade me once," ranted Khushi internally as she eyed for any signs of transport for herself.
Suddenly, she felt herself being pulled into the passenger seat of a car and before she could scream at audacity of the person, she saw herself face-to-face with the person whom she was complaining against just a few moments back.
"You? How dare you pull me into your car, against my wish?" demanded Khushi, as Arnav shut the door of his car and locked it with the central lock system of the car.
"I asked you once and you refused me. You should have known that I am used to getting things done my way, either by hook or by crook," explained Arnav, as he began driving ignoring her protests.
"Yeah, who knows that better than me. You only care about yourself, you don't care if your crooked way is turning someone's life upside down," derided Khushi with a condescending smirk on her lips.
Arnav sighed in disappointment as he tried to control his boiling blood.
"Where are we going? This is not the way to my residence," pointed Khushi, looking at Arnav incredulously.
"You tell me where to go, because you are the only one who knows my destination at this point of time," he answered, making Khushi cock her eyebrow in a questioning manner.
"What do you mean? I live in..."
"I know you live in Police Quarters. I am asking for something else," he prodded, turning slightly to look at her confused expressions.
"I don't understand, Mr.Raizada. Stop talking in riddles and for god's sake, stop eating my brains," she said, huffing in indignation.
"I want you to take me to the orphanage where you have left my daughter. I want to meet her," stated Arnav, in a matter of fact tone and unconsciously she felt a flicker of hurt cross her features and stab her heart.
"You know that I am not telling that to you," she replied, her tone confident despite her inner turmoil regarding the same.
"Oh, of course you will. You must be acquainted with the fact that I have the highest success ratio in getting truth out of criminals in the department. And you aren't even a criminal. Getting it out of you would be easy," pointed Arnav, pulling the car to a stop in an isolated place causing Khushi's heartbearts to heighten to a pace which she had previously not known to exist.
"So now you will force me, Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada?" she asked, buying sometime for herself to make a plan to escape while Arnav began leaning towards her in a dangerous fashion.
"If you bring me down to that, I will. You better reveal the name before I do something which we will regret later," he warned, placing his arms on either side of her head as she rested her back against the car door.
"Why should I? You never cared to look back and check if I was even alive or dead. Why do you care about the child? You were just doing your duty right? You are free of any relations which you have formed during your undercover operation, isn't it?" she questioned, boring straight into his eyes, reminiscing the days she was fully pregnant, serving her mother in vegetative state and had no one by her side.
She would have had satisfaction if he was just by her side, without any money or without anything else, but he had betrayed her and abandoned her in path which knew no escape.
"Khushi, please. Don't test my patience," he threatened, knowing well that she was right but his fatherly instinct did not allow him to be at peace.
"Arnav Singh Raizada, you don't test my tolerance," she yelled back, spitting fire on him.
"Fine then. Till you tell me where my daughter is, you will stay with me, in my house as my wife, which I am sure you do not wan, considering everyone you have to answer to and your soul which hates me. Ms. Khushi Gupta, welcome back to being Mrs. Arnav Singh Raizada."
