"Huh!?" I shoot up from a maroon bed. My eyes were wide open, and my heartbeat beating at an alarming speed. "Where.." I gulped hard. My eyes turned towards the open curtain windows to see Ivy standing by them.
The dark-skinned woman turned her head in my direction. She had no expression, but let out a sigh of relief. "Calm down, Rose."
"How did I get here?" I grumbled. A sudden wave of pain went through my head, making me groan and held my temple.
For a good second, Ivy was silent before she fully turned around to face me, but made no movement. "Reyna left you in the garden and told me to get you. I found you laying in the grass." A dark expression came across her eyes until they disappeared a second later. "I brought you into my room for you to rest."
"You.." I looked down at the maroon sheets. "You didn't do anything else, right?"
"Of course not." She almost sounded offended. "I was merely looking after your well-being." Ivy huffed. "Besides, you were out for a good two days." I stared at her in disbelief. There is definitely no way that I passed out for two days.
Biting the bottom of my lip, I moved the sheets off of me as I began to stand. The dark-skinned woman stared at me before approaching me with no hesitation. "I hope that you can understand what we're trying to do here in this castle, Rose."
"No, I don't understand what you all are trying to do here, Ivy." I retaliated. "I just want to go home, but clearly that isn't going to be the case, is it?"
Her forest green eyes peered into mine before grabbing my shoulder with a gentle grip, making me flinch at her touch. "Look.." She sighed. "This is for the greater good, and you'll understand soon. You're lucky to only have four partners instead of.. plenty more." Ivy whispered the last part, but I shuddered at the thought.
My hand came up to hers, making me move her hand away from my shoulder. "This doesn't change how I feel about all of you." I narrowed my eyes, shifting my attention from her. "If I need to fake every move just to survive in this castle, then I will." I could hear her breathe quicken. "Those rules of yours really didn't change a single thing. I thought I had a choice in the matter, but clearly.. I didn't."
"Rose.."
I moved past her, bumping into her shoulder. Ivy's body tensed at the weak impact, but she didn't move a muscle to stop me. Though, her presence that lingered behind me was making me uncomfortable.
Walking down the long hallways, I felt like the walls were just watching me. It was spine-chilling, but I gulped hard and paced myself down further. Even if it were a short while, Ivy would make me feel safer in these eerie halls. Since I had that little outbreak with her, it would be best if the both of us don't talk for a bit.
"What the hell am I going to do in this place?" I muttered, looking up at the enormous windows along the corridors. The moon was out, but it wasn't full just yet. It shined down in the gloomy halls.
"Bored, I presume?" Katrina's voice caught me off guard, causing me to jump. Her eyes were dimly glowing in the dark as she stared at me with her crimson eyes. "The moon is gorgeous." Her heels clicked along the floor as she approached me.
"It.. is." I whisper, but she smiled at my response.
"You look somber. Is something the matter?" It was off to think that she would care for my well-being. Well.. If her feelings were true. She was my first.
"I'm just feeling a lot of things all at once." My arms crossed tightly against my chest. Her eyes peered down at me, but she didn't say a word for a few seconds, leaving me in the uncomfortable silence. "Look, I'm just gonna go around the castle. This place is huge, and I need to eventually get familiar anyway."
Katrina grew a smirk on her face before nodding. "Well, if that is your wish, Rose." She then held out her hand. "Would you like me to accompany you? I hear that there is a monster on the hunt for fresh meat." She giggled at her own joke, but I just stood there. Realizing that I gave no response, she stood up straight and put her hand back to her side. "Ah.. I suppose that is a no?"
"Well.." If she meant any other monster besides herself, then I would definitely take her offer. "If what you are saying is true then please do." A smile formed on my lips.
"Ah, I knew that you would say yes." Warmth reached her eyes, making my body a little less tense.
"You know, there is an important party coming up soon tomorrow night." Katrina smiled softly, making look up just a bit towards her. "I was planning on telling you sooner, or let the others tell you about this event, but.. You were gone for quite a while. It was hard to tell you without letting you rest."
I bit the bottom of my lip. "Well, I'm awake now." My hands filled my back pockets. Looking back down at the carpet on the floor, I drifted into my own thoughts. "This party.. It's a big deal for them, huh. What would my role be in all of this then?"
The younger vampire kept her eyes on me without me realizing. Her gaze was longing, but she didn't act on with any action. She merely walked by my side before I looked forward again.
"For the most part, I will be watching you in the beginning of the party until I let my sister take over." I flinched at the thought. The brief memory of Priya's bite made me shudder.
"If you don't mind.." I tucked my hair behind my ear. "What exactly is this party about? Or what it's for?"
Katrina's eyes lit up brightly. "I'm so glad you asked!" She sounded incredibly joyful. "You see, this is one of the events where we celebrate our gifts that were given to us. Lots of mortals believe that we came from a curse, but it is actually a blessing for us!" She stopped in the middle of the hall, causing me to stop as well. Her hands took mine as she held them close. "You could say that I'm grateful to have these gifts, so we also host many parties for all of the monsters in this region."
"A-All..?"
She nodded, "Yes!" The vampire let go of my hands as she looked up at the moon. "This is one of the nights that would be perfect." Her eyes twinkled in the moonlight. "The very first Vampire will arrive.." She whispered under her breath, but my ears caught it.
"So.. I should be expecting this happening soon, huh."
"Very soon, Rose." The vampire grinned at the moonlight. "I'm hoping that you'll enjoy every second of what happens! I know I do!" Turning her front back towards me, her figure was outlined by the light provided by the moon. Glowing, Katrina came in front of me, holding my hands. Her thumbs gently brushing against the back of my palm.
"You will see that we are not all monsters. That we do not just want to harm mortals." Her voice was soothing, and I almost felt sympathy strike my heart. Gulping hard, I nodded as I understood.
"I.. I will try to enjoy the party." I whispered, making her smile just a tiny bit more.
"Thank you, Rose." That same warm smile left me in the hallway once we stopped by Katrina's room. She told me that I would be welcomed anytime in her room if she wanted to feel safe. I would take her offer, but I still hesitated.
Tomorrow night already gives me shivers just thinking about what could happen to me that night. Right now, all I can do is hope for the protection from those four girls.
