Chapter 17

(Rose's POV)

"You two are complete perverts to even think about fucking in the middle of a public place." Iris groaned as she was driving down the road. "I knew I had a strange feeling in my gut when you two were sitting in the same seat."

Athena and I sank in our seats as Iris lectured the two of us. Of course, I understand why. We could have been kicked out and possibly banned from the theater if we ever wanted to return.

"Ah, come on, Iris." Athena groaned out. "You would have offered the same treatment for Rose if she was getting tense like that. The poor human girl needed to relieve some stress." The Lamia leaned over against the back of my hair, wrapping her arms around my neck. Despite a headrest blocking her, she tried to cuddle the back of my head.

"That's besides the point. There could have been any other possible way for her to handle it." The bounty hunter huffed. "God, I'm going to make sure that you do not sleep in the same room as Rose at this point."

The Lamia perked up and tried to plead with the human girl. "That's a little far, don't you think!? She'll be comfortable around me, and she'll be safe too!"

Athena wasn't completely wrong about that, but I'm a little unsure at the same time. She may be stronger than Iris, but that can go bad for me. She really likes to wrap me around in her coils, so she could suffocate me in my sleep, even if she doesn't mean to. There's no way that I would risk that.

The raven haired woman just shook her head as she stared at the road. "No more risks. Rose, you're going to be in my room. If I have to, I'll find a mattress and set it on the floor for me to sleep on." She sighed. Nodding slowly, I continued to listen to Athena's pleas while Iris ignored all of them.

The three of us arrived back to the cabin earlier than we expected. Maybe it was for the best, but Athena was having a rough time by being in a room by herself under Iris's orders. On the bright side, I'm not going to be suffocating in my sleep.

While the two were busy sealing up the inside of the cabin with traps, I sat down onto a stump. The moon took over, and it shined down onto the cabin. It was an amazing sight to see, and I just let out a small chuckle. This was going to be my new life, and I can't wait to live it.

"Hey Rose! Can you go out and get some water from the pond? It isn't too far from here." Iris called out from the window. I looked over my shoulder at the woman, who leaned out and pointed in a straight direction. Giving her a quick nod, I immediately got up from the stump to go in the direction that she pointed towards.

Unfortunately for me, I lost my way of direction, despite not making a simple turn. These woods were strange, and in the night it was worse. They frightened me to death, and that was no exaggeration. It was almost like they were staring right down my soul.

It may have taken a good couple of minutes, but I finally found the pond that Iris spoke of. There was a bucket next to it. Slowly, I approached the pond to grab the bucket. That was until I heard a snap in the woods.

My body froze, but I immediately turned around to check if anyone was around. Was it Athena? Or Iris?

Iris said that there were various of monsters out in here, but there were some that were allies as well. Do they even know of my presence in this area? Would I even be protected if they were to know me?

"Is.." I put both of my hands over my mouth to stop myself from saying anything. There is no way that I was going to be dumb enough to attract any attention that I possibly already did.
