I hate college parties. Especially Halloween ones. I don't even know why I'm here.
Oh. Right.
Designated driver. I'm here, that's all that matters to them. They were all upset when they saw my costume.
Lois Lane. Sorry I don't really care. Well, I cared enough to recreate one of her outfits perfectly, but not enough to dress up as like Wonder Woman or a princess or something like that. The stench of alcohol and sweat is overpowering, so I start to climb the stairs. I almost puke as I see couples making out so hard core all up the sides of the stair well.
And in the hallways upstairs.
And in the bathroom.
And in the bedrooms.
I look to my left and see my escape.
I climb out the window and onto the roof. I sit with my legs tucked up against my chest. I look at the people outside. I could tell they were all terribly drunk. Ugh. Why? I could see people playing beer pong and others smoking in the corner. I sigh, laying down fully onto the roof.
I look up and admire the stars, smiling at the true, unadulterated beauty of them. It's crazy to think they're so far away, one of them could be dead, but we don't know because we're far behind.
Sometimes I wish I were a star, away from everyone. Away from everything. Away from all the bad, all the idiots, all the evil, anything and everything. I could be happy, giving people smiles as they look up at me. Sometimes...
I sit back up, looking out over the yard again. I see one of my roommates walking like a freaking zombie or something- she's faking over and bumping into everything. I better go help her. I stand up to go back to the window, but the whole house shakes. I take a step back, but regain my balance. I wait, making sure whatever it was stopped. It was good, so I start to walk back up to the window.
I'm only a few feet away before the shaking starts. It makes my right foot slip out from under me and I fall onto my side, landing on my hand.
"Gosh dang it!" I yell.
The shaking doesn't stop though. My hand hurts really bad, the pain making me go slightly blind. I blink, trying to figure out where I am.
I do, but it's too late. I've rolled down the roof and I'm at the edge. It feels like I'm falling for minutes. It's like time slows down and my body knows that I'm about to hit my head and the back of my body onto the pavement below me, so it lets me take in the sight.
But, instead of hitting the pavement, my back and my legs hit something much softer than the pavement. I look up and see a boy.
"Hey! Are you okay?" He asks me, actually seeming very worried.
"Umm... I think so..." I mumble a little, not quite believing what just happened.
"I'm gonna set you down, okay?" I mumble a sure and he gently sets me down onto a chair away from everyone. "I don't see anything major, except maybe your wrist. I think it's sprained. Otherwise, you look good," he talks to himself as he looks over me, checking to see if I was hurt.
"I'm sorry, what just happened? What are you saying? And who are you?" I finally get out as my brain starts to work again.
"I'm sorry. Okay," he pauses in his words and takes the seat next to me. "I'm Grayson Dolan, I'm a med student here and you just fell off a roof," he tells me like it's pretty casual.
I look around at everyone else and for the first time realize that none of them are even glancing in our direction. No one even noticed I fell.
"How did you know I was falling?" I ask, turning back to him.
"I heard you yell and then I was kind of confused until I heard something on the roof- you. I heard you yell, fall and then I heard you rolling down the roof, so I was ready to catch you," he explains, pointing up to where the window that I climbed out of was.
"Well, thank you. I don't even know what to say," I'm left kind of speechless. He just saved my life. And I'm not even drunk.
"You don't seem drunk?" He kind of asks and makes a statement at the same time. I chuckle lightly.
"I'm not. I was just trying to get some air away from everyone and then something happened to make the house shake and I slipped and then ended up rolling off the house. Which I'm lucky about because- oh my gosh," I finally turn and see who he's dressed up as.
"Superman?" I can't believe this.
"I guess that's me as well, it's not it?" He laughs. "Who are you?"
"Well, you may not believe me at all, but I'm Lois Lane," I tell him truthfully.
"Wow. I think the earth is telling us that we need to get to know each other then," he winks at me, smiling. And either it's the effects of the fall and the rush of emotions, but I definitely almost faint. I didn't know a smile could be so attractive before.
"Oh right! We need to go get your wrist checked out," he remembers, getting up.
"Wait what?" I ask.
"You either sprained or broke your wrist falling, so we need to find out which one it is. Come on, I promise I won't bite," he tells me, holding out his hand for me to grab.
"I can't, I'm my roommates' designated driver," I tell him, shrugging. I would totally go find out if my wrist was sprained or broken with him.
"So am I. Look, I'll call one of my other friends to come get them and you can call one of yours and then we can see what's going on with you, sound good?" He asks, raising an eyebrow.
"Okay... I guess," I 'unwillingly' agree. This guy is way too sweet and handsome to not have a girlfriend, so I can't get my hopes up.
