"Thomas! Don't forget your lunch!!" Thomas' mother called for him as he made his way to the bus stop.

"I'm coming mom!" He called back to his smiling mother. He grabbed his lunch bag from his mother as she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Have a great day" she says happily to him.

"I will. Bye!" Thomas waved, running back down the sidewalk to catch his bus. He stood at the bus stop with all of the other seven and eight year old kids. Thomas was in grade two, but there were some people from higher grades there also, mostly grade twos, threes, and fours. He stared down at his shoes for a few minutes until the bus finally came, and he quickly followed the other kids on, eager to chose his seat.

Once Thomas' first few classes of the day were over, it was finally lunch recess. He put on his sweater, outdoor shoes, and hat on in the cubbies, and then practically skipped his way to the doors. He stood outside them for a moment, quickly looking at all the other kids. He scrunched his eyebrows together as he looked for one person in particular, which was his best friend of course.

When Thomas didn't see him, he decided that he should go and wait at their special 'meet up' spot; just a simple light post next to the field. Thomas almost ran towards it, and quickly sat down against it.

He looked around for a few minutes, trying to see if anyone would come up to him. But, unfortunately for Thomas, no one came like usual. The small boy was starting to get impatient, so he looked down and started to fiddle with his fingers, and fix his shoes over and over again. He kept doing that until a shadow was cast over him from behind, causing the brunette boy to jump slightly. When he realized that the shadow was cast by a person, he turned around excitedly whilst standing.

"New- uh, oh. Hi Alby." Thomas said nervously looking down after finishing the awkward sentence.

"What are you doing by yourself there greenie?" The grade three boy said crossing his arms. He straitened out his back, and lifted his chin, as if this short grade three boy could come off as tough to anyone. His confidence was clearly showing, and it made Thomas very uncomfortable.

Thomas only shrugged at him. He didn't want to say anything that might make this older boy dislike him more than he probably already does.

"That wasn't an answer. What are ya doing?" Alby steps closer to him, making Thomas step back.

Thomas waited before answering, and decided to stand up strait and cross his arms as well to seem tough like Alby. Thomas didn't think it worked, since Alby let out a small chuckle behind his hand. "I was just waiting for someone." Thomas' small amount of confidence was quickly taken away as Alby started laughing out loud. Thomas just looked at him confused. "Hey why is that funny?" Instead of answering the older boy just laughed harder. "Stop laughing!" Thomas yelled at him, and almost instantly, Alby did stop. He looked pretty mad though.

"Don't, tell me what to do greenie." He growled at Thomas, standing over him.

"My name is Thomas." Thomas replied bitterly. Alby rolled his eyes at him.

"I was laughing because you are waiting for someone, who is clearly never going to show up. Because, Thomas, you have no friends. No one liked you. That's it. That's why I was laughing."

At those words, Thomas felt his heart break. Maybe he's right. I don't have any friends. Does anyone even like me? What did I do wrong? I doubt Newt even actually cares. He was probably just pretending to be nice, and got tired, that's why he didn't show up.

Alby looked like he was waiting for Thomas so say something, and he hated the pleased look on his face. Like he was happy at how his hurtful words affected the smaller boy. "I- I mean. That's not-"

"That's not true at all" Thomas felt a smile creep on his face, as he heard the soft British voice speak from behind him. He felt a gentle hand being placed on his shoulder as Newt stood next to him. "Tommy and I are best friends." Newt smiled at Alby, while putting his arm completely around Thomas, causing his cheeks to turn a soft shade of pink.

Alby rolled his eyes, mumbling to himself as he turned and walked away. He said something along the lines of "whatever I don't even care" to "why don't you two just date each other then"

Both boys ignored Alby, and once he was gone, they both turned and tightly hugged each other. "Where were you Newt." Thomas asked quietly, nuzzling his nose in the other boys shoulder.

"I'm so sorry Tommy. I had to stay back to help clean up. My class was a mess! I tried to come as quickly as I could though." They hugged each other tighter before letting go, and sitting on the ground against the lamp post. "Don't let anything he says bother you. You're perfect Tommy. An angel even!" This made Thomas blush and smile.

"Thank you Newt, for everything. I love you." He said grabbing his best friend's hand, and squeezing it tightly. Newt smiled, as he looked Thomas in the eyes. "I love you too Tommy."
