"Hey!" A man screamed. "Don't forget about my contributions to this community!"
"Please, sir, stop causing such a commotion. I'm sure this is all a misunderstanding,"
Everett grasped Kaden's hand, which was the only thing keeping them from losing each other forever in the vast sea of people.
A long brick wall was bolted into the ground, surrounding the city like a moat. Everett looked to Kaden and she looked back just as confused. Someone rammed into her, and she grunted in surprise. She glared into the back of his head as he kept walking straight, not caring about the abyss of madness around him.
"Excuse me?" Everett tapped the nearest boy who was crammed next to him.
"Yes sir?" The boy turned around smiling. His bright blue eyes were shining as bright as the sun, which could not even compare to the light that was held in them.
"Ummm....where are we?" Everett asked hesitantly, as he looked to Kaden. She shrugged.
"Why, on the outskirts of Pelac, of course!" He laughed. "Do you need guidance?"
"Y-yes please. Umm....why are there so many people here?"
The boy laughed again.
"They are here to get into Pelac," He said joyfully.
Everett blinked his eyes in disbelief.
"All of these people?" Everett looked warily to Kaden, who was behind him. He stepped forward, clearing his throat. "Is today special?"
"Not any specialer' then any other day!" The boy grinned, walking away, weaving easily through the pile of people.
Everett squeezed Kaden's hand, and she glared at him, loosening her hold. Everett sighed and looked down, letting go. When he looked up, she was gone.
After the initial shock, Everett blew through the crowd, trying desperately to find her. The people seemed to crush into him, compressing him down into the small, scared little boy that he was.
"Kaden?"
His voice was drowned out by the constant moan of the people around him in their lifeless chatter. He caught sight of the wall, and his spirits lifted.
He ran forwards, taking hold of his necklace, dodging the people that were planted like trees in the rock around him. Once he got to the wall, he placed his hand on the warm stones reassuringly. He looked back to the crowd.
"Kaden?" He screamed. "I'm at the wall!"
No answer. Then someone bloodcurdlingly screamed. Everett dashed back into the crowd. He caught sight of Kaden, at the front of the line. The person before her was screaming as they looked at Kaden. Everett slammed into the people around him, trying to get to her. The person's screams finally became recognizable.
"Dear Whisper, look at her eyes!" The woman screamed. "She's possessed!"
Uneasy silence covered the crowd like a cloak. Everett grabbed a hold of Kaden and looked into her eyes the moment he was in reach. They were right, her eyes looked like fireballs. She glared at Everett, then collapsed into his arms. He whimpered under her unexpected weight but held her firmly after. He grabbed her head from his shoulder and looked back into her eyes. They were a normal color now, but the woman's face in front of them wasn't. She was as pale as a ghost as she sobbed in terror. The person leading the next line went over to her to comfort her. Kaden was still limp. Then her body heaved.
