"You, boy!"
Everett spun around, his face turning pale. He refused to look the man in the eyes.
"Yes sir? You called?"
"How dare you disrespect your elders by wandering out in the streets all day? You are the future of Pelac, child! What you have done has cast dishonor on all of your decedents!"
"I'm afraid I'm not sure what you are referring to, sir," He said, biting his lip.
"Are you stupid, boy? You disgrace me with your stupid questions. School, of course! You can't make it around here for long before you need to learn something boy!" He walked towards him, and grabbed his arm. "Miss Lukens will be petrified to have a disobeying boy like you, but I suppose everyone's got to start somewhere." He pulled Everett along by his arm. He looked at his eyes. A chill shot up his spine. His heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest. The man grinned, when he realized Everett recognized him. He tightened his iron grip. He marched him to a looming building, with bars on the windows. Everett looked back to where Kaden lay somewhere, unconscious in the sidewalk. He looked at the haunting face of Adron in front of him.
"Why are you here?" Everett glared at him.
"I have to scout my enemies, right?" He gave a sweet smile, which sent another tingle up his spine.
"Who are you?" He pulled his wrist away, unable to escape his grasp. Adron leaned towards him, and lowered his tone.
"Everett Colley, if you could even begin to understand who I am and where I came from, you would be a lot more cooperative. I am going to be the ruler of the blasted land if it's the last thing I do, and let me tell you, you hardly know anything. You are in my way. And I will not let you get away with that." He dug his fingernails in Everett's arm as he ripped him along the street. "Your parents are rotting in the Asylum, and I will not let you get away with such a pleasurable death."
Everett was silent. He still resisted the pull, but he knew there was nothing he could do to beat this man. He stumbled to a metal gate. Adron ripped the doors open, shoving Everett inside. He was led through dark, empty hallways and was pushed into a room. The classrooms were considerably brighter, but Everett still could not shake the haunting feeling of Adron's breath on his neck.
Adron smiled a smile so bright, Everett almost doubted that he was bad at all. A tall, dark haired woman was standing at the front of the class.
"Miss Lukens!" He walked towards her. He kissed her hand, and she giggled.
"Adron! How nice it is to see you!"
"I'm so sorry to interrupt, but I found this boy wandering on the streets, like the idiot he is," He flashed a grin at Everett, who was still slunk away in the doorway. "I figured the best person to care for him would be you, Clove." She blinked, obviously flattered. "And as you know, children are our future!" He spun around, and pulled Everett closer to the woman. He looked out to the classroom, where glassy eyes everywhere were plastered on him. He fidgeted uncomfortably, looking away from the children and nodding at Miss Lukens in respect.
"Ah. What is your name?" Her light voice darkened when speaking to Everett.
"Everett Colley, ma'am. I hope not to trouble you in my endeavors to change Pelac for the better. I am flattered to be taught by such an obviously capable teacher, and I hope that I will become even the slightest more respectable when I am older, so people could see a bit of you, in me." He glanced at Adron, who was sneering at him.
