Through the rest of the day, I had these flashbacks of lunch. Each one made me smile. Math and science put together I got fifteen pages of homework. But I'll be done with it in about fifteen minutes. Eating lunch with Matt is the best memory I have of this school. The rest of the day went by fast. Once the day was over I went to my locker, grabbed my homework and started walking home. When I was a block away from the school, I could hear someone walking behind me. Someone could have lived this way. I wouldn't know because I ride the bus to and from school. But today I wanted to think about Matt a little more without the others ruining it. So I didn't worry about it. But then someone came up behind me and grabbed my shoulders.
"Lola!"
I turned around it was Matt.
"Matt, are you following me?"
"No, I live this way."
"Really? What street?"
"Oak Street."
"No way."
"What?"
"That's the street I live on."
"Really. What's your house number?"
"209"
"Mines 208."
"That's the house across the street from mine."
"How did we not know this before?"
"Well I normally ride the bus to and from school."
"Why did you walk today?"
"Sarah rides my bus, plus people are mean and cruel."
"So you didn't want be face to face with her, plus people are jerks. I understand."
"Yea, oh here's your jacket." I said starting to take it off.
"Keep it till tomorrow. It's going to be cold."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes,Lola keep it till tomorrow."
We walked all the way back home. It was a cold walk, but I felt warm inside. I think I met a really good friend. But why does my heart race when I think about Matt. I know he's the best male soccer player on the Barren Varsity team. I may have asked around about him. But he's a great guy. He walked me to my door and gave me a piece of paper that had his phone number on it. I went inside and finished my homework. It took eighteen minutes to finish.
"Lola, dinners ready."
"Coming."
I went down stairs and fixed my plate. When I sat down at the table next to mom, her reaction was weird.
"What about homework?"
"Finished."
"Lola, I'm not dumb. I know that you have been done for a week."
"Then why did you let me eat by myself in my room for the past week."
"You seemed to need some alone time. So I gave it to you. A mom knows when their child is stressed or upset."
"Mom-"
"You don't have to tell me what was bugging you. But if you want I will listen. Just know that you don't have to tell me."
"I want to."
"Then speak away."
"I made a friend.'
"Really. Who is it?"
"Matt. He lives across the street."
"Oh, a boy."
"Yea. Why?"
"Nothing. I want to meet him."
"Ok. Can I text and ask if he can come after school tomorrow?"
"Sure but I won't be home till four."
"That's fine. We can do homework."
"But it only takes you ten minutes to do fifteen pages."
"It doesn't with him."
"Oh ok I see."
After I ate and got ready for bed. I put my school stuff in my backpack. Then I went to bed, right after I added Matt's number into my phone
