What's wrong?

Zack POV.

My back hurts! A lot! But I can't think about that now. I have a crying boy in my arms and a pissed off looking Keagan walking through a hole in the wall..? What? And Nora looking quite lost actually.

Toby looked up at me. Red eyes at pouty lips. He sniffled a few times then asked me a question in a very small voice.

"When- when I walked to this flat I saw some other people in town. There were two of them I believe. Can we save them?"

"Did they have shelter?"

He thought about that for a minute before answering.

"I don't know."

We have to safe them!

"Nora get Kaitly and Keagan. Now! Hurry up!"

She looked confused but went with it.

I calmed Toby down a bit more an assured him it's going to be ok. Soon after they came all rushing in Keagan looked worried yet distant.

"He saw some people in this town. We have to go and get them!"

They looked unsure for a minute then more sure? Can people do that?

"We... ok that's... we should do that, gather more people."

Kaitly said. Thank you Kaitly! You understand me!

The others nodded.

"Then we should get ready as soon as possible. Zack you stay here wit Toby. Nora Kaitly and I will investigate. Where did you saw them?"

"Near the dentist and a clothing store.. I don't know what it's called."

"That's in the center. So we're pretty close. Nora you get the weapons, Kaitly you grab he bulletproof vests I'll make a map with Zack."

And they did just that. They were running around the rooms? Rooms? Were they? Or is it one now with the hole in it? Moving on!

Keagan and I made a map to cover the area they were seen in.

After that they went out. I stayed with Toby and his dog Waffles. I really love that dog.

He has such a cute name yet he's so freaking bulky. I mean like I'm gym addicted bulky. Body builder bulky.

Like damn. Bulky dog. I think the name suits him though. He has a nice and bubbly personality. Can you have a bubbly personality? He's energetic.

"So Waffles huh? It's a nice name. How did you come up with it?"

Toby looked a bit happier at his dog then back at me and gave me an answer with that kid excitement.

"Well I thought it was funny to give a cute name to a big dog. But in the end it suits him don't you think? His personality is a typical Waffles personality so I called him Waffles."

Kids. I love them. See the difference between adults and kids is that kids aren't awkward. Like adults are always awkward. While kids just keep talking and they like almost everything you do. While with adults... they are difficult I don't like them.

"It really does suit him. You did a very good job in naming him. I once had a cat. My parent let me name it. Biggest mistake they ever made."

"Why?"

"I called him Mr. Alien destroyer the third from space."

I chuckled at the memory of my parents looking at me with shocked faces. Then asking me if I was sure because I couldn't change it once it was chosen. I didn't see what was wrong with it then. I still don't.

"I don't get it. That's an awesome name! Is he still alive? Is he here? I want to meet him!"

"I thought so too! But my parents thought differently. Apparently it's a very inappropriate name. I think it's cool though. And no he isn't alive anymore Mr. alien destroyer the third from space died when I was ten years old."

"Ahw.. that's a shame! If we find a cat can we keep him? And call him Mr. alien destroyer the third from space!?"

"Only if Waffles likes the cat ok?"

His eyes just started twinkling with excitement while he jumped around. He stopped jumping when the door opened though. Nora came stumbling in with a wounded woman while Keagan held a unconscious man. Kaitly held their weapons.

I wanted to help but I could barley move. Keagan laid the unconscious man next to me and ran out of the door again with Kaitly. Who had laid all of their stuff on the floor.

They came back seconds later with two mattresses. They laid them on the floor and covered them with a blanked before Nora laid the woman on it. Keagan then picked up the man and laid him down on the other mattress.

"What happened?"

Kaitly and Keagan continued taking care of the strangers while Nora came towards me and gave me an answer.

"Monsters. There were only three of them but they were defenseless. No weapons and stuff. We arrived just in time and killed them. The man was already unconscious and the woman was slipping in between."

I nodded. That was some heavy caramel. I looked over at Toby and saw him looking at the strangers in absolute horror.

Oh clocks! He's only 8 he can't see this!

"Nora go grab a blanket for them."

She nodded and walked out of the room. Now I need to get Toby out of here. Or at least make him stop staring at the bodies like they were his dead cat. I want a cat. No not now Zack!

"Toby come here." He didn't move. "Toby?" He finally snapped out of his trance and looked at me.

"Come here." I said in a mother no fatherly voice. Though it was a bit more feminine. So in a motherly father voice. That's a thing.

He looked back at the strangers then walked over to me. Still scared. When he was in arms reach I pulled him towards me.

"It's ok." I whispered. "They are going to be fine. Thanks to you. You saved them Toby." I kissed the side of his head.

Wait. Was I over stepping a line? Do people just kiss a kid on the head while they met like 2 hours ago? Am I a creep now? What if he knows what's normal and knows that kissing someone on the head you just met 2 hours ago isn't normal? What is he thinks I'm a-

Toby sniffled and hugged me closer to him. I did a good thing! Yes! Good job Zack! You acted like a normal human being! I'm so proud of you.

I looked over at the strangers one more time. The women was taken care off and sleeping. The man was still unconscious but they were taking care of him.

We found more people. Thank god.
