The end of us

Zack 1.

Keagan POV.

It's been a week now. We found safe homes and got settled in monsters were still rooming around but not more then usual. The big horde was mostly gone.

Zack has been out for a week too. I don't know if he's gonna make it. We're all scared. He's stable but I don't know for how long. It looks like he's in a coma.

But since we don't have any technology we won't know.

We just hope he'll wake up soon. He brought us all together we need him.

Anyways I'll explain the situation a bit more. So after Zack got hurt by one of the monsters, Kaitly and Nora slammer the door shut and moved stuff in front of it while I ran towards Zack. I tried pulling him up by his arm but he passed out.

After the doors were secured we walked up the stairs. Unfortunately the lift doesn't work anymore. Nora went upfront since she was now the strongest. Then I came with Zack on my back and lastly Kaitly.

Nora checked all the rooms we came by while Kaitly and I discussed what we needed for Zack's wounds. Since she was walking behind me she could get a good look at his back.

It looked terrible.

When we came to the 4th floor we decided that this was high enough and started searching for rooms. We found two big ones next to each other and made a hole in the wall so we had one apartment.

Kaitly and Nora slept in the room with the two king sized beds while Zack and I would share one king sized bed. I wouldn't mind sharing with him.

I think I like him. Now is not the time though...

After we found the rooms we immediately started taking care of Zack's wounds.

We cleaned it and stitched it but that was all we could do. Now we just had to wait. And I didn't like it. I want him to be safe.

I guess I really do like him. Or no I care about him I don't like him. I can't.

Not now. We're in a time of... I don't know what kind of time we're in but it's not a good one! I mean what would I do if I fall in love with him!? We can't be all lovely dovely in this sort of time.

The girls were in their room while I sat next to Zack on our bed. I like the sound of that, our bed. No no Keagan you can't fall in love now.

He looked really peaceful in his sleep. Though I like him more when he's awake and cheerful. He's always so energized and optimistic. Even in times like these he keeps smiling and cheering us up.

Though people say that a smile hides a lot of their pain. I just hope that's not the case.

I stroked some hair out of his face and sighed. I want him to wake up.

I don't know how long I can take this anymore. It's been like this for a week he should be awake by now right? He wasn't sick or anything like that.

Just his back.. I mean yeah it looked awful but still... I want him to wake up damnit!

I angrily stood up and paced around the room. I'm getting restless. It's been a week. A week!

I punched the wall that's connected to the girls room. Then continued pacing around the room. The girls came running out of there room into mine and Zack's.

Kaitly was the first one who spoke, after they looked at me for awhile.

"Keagan! What the hell are you doing!?"

I just scoffed at her. What kind of idiotic question is that? Can't you use your eyes? I mean I love my sister I really do but she can be kind of stupid sometimes.

"Keagan don't scoff at me! You- you punched the wall! Why would you do that?"

I stopped and looked at Zack. Then I looked back at Kaitly she nodded at me in understanding.

Nora left the room seeing that we needed some space to talk to each other.

"I understand that you're worried but getting angry isn't going to solve this. We did everything we could it's up to Zack now. Just... stay with him ok? He probably needs you when he wakes up."

I smiled at her and nodded. She knew I wasn't much of a talker since our parents died in front of me.

She smiled back and went back to her and Nora's room. I looked over at Zack. He's still sleeping. I walked to our bed and sat down next to him.

"Please wake up. We need you. I need you..."

I whispered while I stroked his hair. I want to see his beautiful brown eyes again. They were like chocolate. His hair matched his eyes. Though his hair was a bit darker brown.

His eyes had specks of gold in them. It was fascinating. He had a cute nose. I don't know how to explain it but it was cute. He had some freckles on his face. I saw some on his back and arm too.

I wonder if he has them all over his body... I kind of want to find out. No! No no I do NOT want to find that out!

Suddenly Kaitly came running into the room looking scared.

"The-there w-was a-a-a n-noi-noise!"

"Kaitly calm down ok? Just breath now tell me what happened. Ok?"

She took a few deep breaths then started talking, calmer now. But still fast.

"We-we heard a noise. It was on this floor we believe it was coming from the stairs. I don't know if it was a m-monster or not... should we look?"

A noise. Coming from probably the stairs. Monsters can't climb and the door and windows were blocked. We didn't check the whole building so it could be a monster. If it was a monster Zack is in deep trouble.

Someone should guard Zack and the other two should investigate. I would like to stay with Zack but I'm the strongest so I'll go investigate. I'll ask Kaitly to stay here so she would be safer.

"I'll go investigate with Nora you stay here and protect Zack. Stay here!"

She nodded while I walked into the girls room.

"Nora we're going to investigate the sounds you heard. Come on."

She nodded and stood up. Then grabbed some weapons and walked towards the door. She turned to me before exiting.

"I believe it came from the stairs on the right side."

I nodded and we walked slowly towards the stairs. Nora was upfront since she knew what it sounded like and from where it came.

When we reached the stairs we heard a noise. We stopped dead in our tracks. And looked to our right. There was a genitors storage room. 

Nora and I looked at each other and looked back at the door. I made a move to open the door but Nora stopped me.

"What if it's a monster?"

She whispers at me.

"I'll deal with it."

Having said that I opened the door. Gun with flashlight in hand. I flashed it around the room till I saw something move. I heard some noise now too.

It sounded like... sniffles? And growling? What?
