The beautiful,
And hideous,
Thing about the ocean
Is that it has two sides.
They will flow in peace,
Decade after decade,
With ships and creatures
Along side it.
There will be rain
And there will be sun rays.
When the sun shines down
On men's faces,
Life exudes from their pores
And warms the sea's heart.
It creates stories
To be told to children,
And memories to be held
Close to heart...
But when thunder strikes down
And in pours rain,
The waves kill thousands.
It steals souls
And gives little mercy.
The rain, cold and hard,
Is acid.
It will rot what is left
Clinging to existence.
The memories will be lost,
The stories held forever on
Blotchy,
Swollen
Tongues.
Sometimes the rain will continue
For days.
Sometimes it will pass and
Grow calm.
And sometimes it will swallow us
All whole,
Until the earth is nothing
But grey, milky oceans,
And hollow ghosts
With glowing smiles.
