"Nooo! Noooo! Don't make me do it! PLEASE!"
Itachi dropped her arm and sighed.
The week had past by Ai in breakneck speed and now she found herself being hauled into the fields where the second round was held, clad in red robes.
"Ai, c'mon, you can do it," Tsuyoi said, smiling. "I'm sure the second round isn't that hard."
Little did Tsuyoi know, the second is going to be hard.
"But-but - " Ai blubbered.
Itachi heaved another sigh. "On the bright side, we've still got twenty minutes to get ready."
Far, far, away from them were cages. Large cages that held the Birds of Nightfall. They were asleep.
Ai ran back into the room they came from and collapsed on a couch. The rest of her team shuffled off to discuss a few things. She rocked herself back and forth, eyes wide.
You look you're having a heart attack. And I mean the other kind.
Be quiet, Yokoshimana! You're not the one facing the Shinobi Games!
Um, we both are.
Whatever. I. Am. Freaking. Out.
"Ai-chan?" she looked up and saw Naruto sitting in the armchair across her. He looked concerned.
"Are you okay?"
He was dressed in black robes. And there was a tiny box in his hand.
"Yeah. Just scared." Ai mumbled. "I don't want to be in this! I'm going to die!"
"No, you aren't," Naruto chuckled. "I don't think the Birds of Nightfall are that dangerous."
There was a very long silence. Naruto's eyes widened and he clamped a hand over his mouth. Ai's mouth dropped open and she automatically pointed a finger at him, mouth still agape.
"You-you- you know about the second round?!" she shouted. Naruto looked uneasy and he nodded.
Ai gasped. What Sakura said flashed in her mind.
"She's always up to no good, Ai. I won't be surprised if she's saying something she's not supposed to. Like, right now."
Oh my god! OH MY GOD! Sakura was right! Hyo probably told Naruto and Sasuke about the second round last night at dinner! I can't believe it!
"Naruto," Ai said slowly. "Did Hyo tell you everything about the second round?"
Looking trapped, Naruto nodded again hesitantly. Her eyes dropped to the box Naruto held and narrowed them.
"What is that?" she demanded. Naruto quickly shoved it away behind him.
Ai stood up. "Naruto, what is that?"
She knew Naruto would give in. I mean, he's Naruto.
"Ear buds," he answered quietly and lifted the lid, showing her a pair of black ear buds and shut the box. "It's for the second round. It protects your ears when the Utau birds sing."
And again, Naruto's mouth worked before his brain can. He cursed at himself for spilling too much information and ran off, red in the face.
THEY'RE CHEATING!!
I know that. But maybe they wouldn't.
