Chapter One:

~Echo~

It had been a very long month. First with meeting Nicholas Flamel and his wife, then their soon following death. When I went back to see them the next day, I found them dead. The couple had left me a note along with the location of hidden papers that contained information on Nicholas’s research on our power. I could not understand a word of them.

Following soon after was the death of my grandmother. It was not a huge surprise to the family, but still a death is a hard blow no matter how prepared you are. The funeral was sweet and short. The next few weeks were filled with working on my grandmother’s affairs.

Now I found myself back at home. Esca and Elissa should be arriving any day through the Weasley’s fireplace. I had not answered their letters until a few days ago when I told them when I would be arriving. George was the only one whose owls I answered. Mostly it was because whenever he offered comfort, it was always a short ‘I’m sorry’ followed by funny things that he and Fred did. Most people will ask if you are okay, when you are definitely not okay with a death in the family. He made me smile through the pain.

                “Echo,” my father called.

I looked at my wall. He was straight forward from where I was looking passed on the feel of his aura. I was about to reply when my vision went black. The sensation forced me to my knees. I felt like I was not in my body anymore, like I was above everything.

Blinking, I hoped my sight would be returned when my eyes opened, but they weren’t. There was something new though, the yellow misty aura of my dad at the door, the green solid aura of my mom in the kitchen, and a golden glow straight ahead.

                “George,” I whispered.

I felt the aura stir. Had he heard me?

The golden aura started down the hall alone until it came to my room and then was directly in front of me.

                “Echo?” it was George’s voice.

“George! I can’t see you. All I see is your aura.”

“Okay, okay, calm down,” he said taking my shoulders as he got down before me. “Remember what Miss. Maritime said, you have to relax. Take a deep breath and just focus on something.”

I tried. I focused on George and how much his letters made me smile and helped me through the hard times. Slowly the blackness when away and the color came back to me. George’s aura dissipated and I could no longer feel my parent’s as strongly.

“Thank you,” I said trying to control my breathing.

“It’s good to see you again,” he said with a smile. “I am glad you can see me now.”

“Well I could see you before it was just a little different seeing than what your eyes do.”

“Has that ever happened to you before?”

“No,” I told him as I got to my feet.

George stood up next to me. He towered over me. I had to almost look straight up to look into his eyes. I felt my mouth fall open.
