Chapter 23: Graduation

I try to hide my laughter as Anya chased Kai who was giggling madly to himself as he ran from her. 

"Kai, get over here!" She shouted chasing the toddler we were baby sitting. 

Kai ran back into the living room hastily running to a hiding spot which was in a wooden trunk hidden in the far side of the room. 

Anya sauntered into the room her breathing raged as she tried to breath normally. 

"Where did he go?" she asked crossing her arms over her chest.

I shake my head playing dumb trying not to blow Kai's hiding spot. 

"I think he ran into the bedroom" I lie trying not to smile. 

She gave me a lopsided smile and crouched down behind the couch. 

Kai opened the lid to the trunk peeking around and hoped out when he thought the coast was clear. 

He looked around sneakily looking for any indication of Anya. "Is the coast clear?" he whispered his focus on me. 

"I think so, bud" I reassure as Anya slowly walked towards the unsuspecting toddler.

Anya then pounced scooping kai up in her arms he laughed wildly as she spun him around in place. 

"Now Kai, it is time for bed your parents will be coming home soon" 

"But Anya!" he whined as she put him back onto his own feet.

"Lets get your pajamas on" She instructed. 

"I don't want to!" He protested crossing his arms over his chest pouting out his lips. 

"I will race you there" I add 

He nods excitedly before he is off in a flash down the hall into his bedroom as I jog behind him. 

Getting into the room Kai was practically running circles. 

" Kai you beat me! You are so fast" I whine playfully as I rummage the toddlers closet for pajamas. 

I ended up pulling out a plain white shirt with grey and white striped pants. 

Kai plopped onto his messy bed that had blankets scattered about. 

He raised his arms and I helped him get dressed. 

"Time for bed" I say kai nods and lays on his mattress. 

I grab the duvet of the bed and put it on him with other blankets. 

Sauntering over to the door I turn off the light switch making the room go dark. 

"Amber!" Kai whined. 

I turn the light back on looking at the child who was snuggled in bed.

"Yea" I say peeking into the doorway.

"Can you read me a bedtime story?" Kai asks innocently putting on a puppy dog look.

I nod knowing I cant say no to this child. 

Sauntering back into the room I grab the stuffed giraffe that was on the rug and hand it to kai. 

I grab the book from my bag knowing kai would like it.

"Whats that book?" he asks looking at the frayed red and purple book in my hand. 

"It's Harry potter" I reply plopping down beside the toddler. 

"It's so long"  

"Sometimes stories are long but that means there is more adventure" 

"What is it about?" he asked hugging the giraffe tighter in his hand. 

"Lets see" I say opening to the first page. The boy who lived. 

As I read through the chapters Kai drifts off to sleep I close the book and crawl out of his bed turning off the light.

My mind wondering to my future...to Anya...Who is my future.

Amber's eyes scenes over the coffee menu.

"What would you like dear?" The barbosa asked sweetly

"Give me the darkest bitter drink you have" Amber orders

"Get her the vanilla Carmel frappe and get me a black coffee" I intervene pulling out the cash for the coffee.

"But my soul!" Amber whines

"You don't have one and you would hate black coffee" I add raising my eyebrow.

She nods before plopping down on the nearest chair.

"Here you go ladies" the lady said sweetly handing us are drinks.

I thank here and we walk out of the coffee shop.

Are feet go in sync.

Looking at Amber, I knew one thing, I love her.

Graduation day...knowing you survived high school and are now going to live on your own.

"Amber Greene!" My name is called I walk on the stage and except my diploma.

"I have something to say..."

The waved for me to go to the microphone.

"Anya thompson come on stage please"

Anya gave me a strange look before hesitantly walking on the graduation stage.

"What are you doing?" She whispers her hands shaking.

"Anya these past 4 years had been the best ones of my life because of you. I know I messed up but I want you...only you...for the rest of my life"

"What?"

"I love you Anya Thompson and I want to spend the rest of my life with you...Your my future and I wouldnt have it any other way..." I sigh and get down on my knee and from my blue robe pull out a little black box "Will you marry me?"
