The First Of Many Trials:
"Rise and shine" came a familiar voice.
It was Olithir. The elf from last night. The elven girl opened her eyes, she didn't remember dropping off, nor did she remember anything about the dream she'd been having. She just remembered having one. She sat up and rubbed her head. Her back aches and her headache. Every noise was louder than it should be, echoing in her head even long after the sound was over. She looked at the elf. His grey eyes were bright and shining and while looking in them she realized that he has already spoken to King Rolim and there seemed to be little hope for her. His eyes lacked the twinkle elves usually had. His long golden hair tucked behind his ears and his pale skin dull in the bad lighting provided by the two candles and three windows.
"It is time for your trial" Olithir unlocked the cell door and waited for her to step out before closing it and escorting her to the kings court room.
"What about the humans?" she asked him, looking back and seeing they were still there.
"King Rolim wanted to talk to you first" he replied, tugging on her arm as he led through the castle and up the stairs, and down hallways and through doors and upstairs and into rooms and out of rooms and up more stairs and up hallways and down stairs and finally they came to the court.
"Speak when spoken to, alway address him as king Rolim, your majesty or sire. Queen Verrona will also be present, addresse her in the same way. Prince Levos and the two Princesses Winter-flower and Ulelesse will also be present. Your fate is left to the king, the queen and the high court. The Prince and Princesses are only there to watch and learn. Use your best manners, say thank you, whatever your fate. If it is death and you fail to say thank you, they will make it much slower than it should be. Good luck" then he flung the doors open and walked her down the isle so she stood at the foot of the platform where the royals sat on their thrones.
"Your name?" asked the Queen.
"Kaylessa Anuaer, your majesty" Kaylessa bowed her head in respect to all the present royals and the court members. She looked at each face and they stared back at her sourly. Elves are very proud creatures and they do not take very kindly to traitors. The queen looked at her king and nodded slightly before turning back to the little elf.
"How old are you, Kaylessa?"
"I was six hundred only a week ago, Queen Verrona" was the answer.
Again, the queen looked at the king and nodded. Then she looked at the daughters who also sat by her side and nodded again and they nodded in return. The king looked at the prince who nodded and the king nodded in response.
'It's all so ridiculous' Kaylessa thought to herself. 'All this nodding, I don't understand. Although I have been away from civilianization for three hundred years and that is long for anyone. Can they not just address me, I feel so left out of my trial that I might as well have not turned up.'
"Are you aware of what you are being charged with?" this time, the king spoke.
His voice was deep and distinct. It would have been attractive had it not been filled with spite.
