Matt stood in the corner of the tiny hospital cubicle, dissecting everything that happened from yesterday until now. Suddenly, a familiar face brightened with animation. ¨Took you long enough¨, Matt said.
“What….happened?” she said.
“Oh, the usual, unraveling conspiracy theories, hiding in lockers, being chased by mechanics, and watching you pass out.” he said sarcastically.
The nurse came in, holding a pastel pink clipboard with kittens on it.
“Hello, Ms. Lilith.” said the nurse in a cheery voice. She had her hair tied up in a brown bun, and she was wearing a white lab coat with a heart on the pocket. She looked at the clipboard and gasped. “W-we have found traces of a dangerous drug in your system. It appears to have come from-¨
“MAY NURSE MADELINE REPORT TO THE OFFICE OF DR. DEVON?”
¨Oh...I have to go...” she said hurriedly clutching her clipboard tightly. She turned around and quickly said “I’m so, so sorry. I had no idea you guys were so young.” With tears in her eyes, she left.
As soon as she left the room, Matt sprung up. He tore off the medicine pouch and poured it in the sink.
¨It was too thin to be an antibiotic.” He then uncovered a rope he had apparently made out of bed sheets and threw it out the window. ¨What are you standing there for,” he said. “ Shake a leg!”
Lilith attempted to get out of the hospital bed, but her legs refused to move.
¨I can´t. ” she said. ¨I can't move. We have to find another way.”
¨You think I didn't plan for this,¨ he said amused. ¨Glad it´s window cleaning day.¨ He jumped out of the window.
¨Hey! You left me! I can't get out of bed remember?¨
There was a mechanical whirring outside the window. Matt resurfaced.
“Do you really think I would go through all this trouble and leave you here, please.” he said.
“Actually, I did believe that,” she said. “You leave me behind all the time! Anyway, how will I get out of this bed? I feel really bad to have to make you “save” me. You know I hate being helpless, and you’ve had to help me so much recently. I hate that I’m currently the damsel in distress.” she said, cringing at the last phrase.
“Let me put it this way,” Matt said, with a smirk,”You are going to owe me a ton of sodas after this. Then, with a tremendous amount of force, the door broke open to reveal a man in a suit, and the nurse beside him, hands in her face. The man´s face was contorted in a sinister grin. The workers from the school were there too, each one carrying a metal bat.
“Well, so much for our ¨great escape¨ ”, Matt said, before getting knocked out.
