"Why are you trying so hard to fit in when you were born to stand out?"

|Φ|

THE slamming of the door resounded within the hallways of Auradon Prep causing a ground-shaking tremor as I stomped my feet in outrage towards the center of my room while Mother and Father followed behind me.

"I told you, Mother! I don't want to marry Prince Chad.", I screamed in frustration, my skirt swirling wildly as I faced them in my dismay. I heaved angrily while the wind gradually picked up inside the room scattering the neatly organized papers from my desk down to the floor. A loud clanking was heard as the curtains moved uncontrollably when my mood plummeted more at the mess in front of me.

"And why is that, darling?", Ariel, the Queen of Atlantica and my mother, spoke softly. Her voice was a melodic tune lingering in the atmosphere as she approached me with Father, King Eric, beside her. A solemn expression was painted on their faces as they waited for their daughter to voice out her thoughts about her betrothed. But even if I told them how much of a sleazebag Chad is, they would never listen. I thought to myself.

I went to the large window located beside my bed, my eyes narrowing when I saw Chad Charming strutting arrogantly towards Audrey Rose, daughter of Queen Aurora and the self-proclaimed Queen Bee of Auradon Prep. He leaned on a tree, smirking confidently as he shamelessly flirted with the pompous princess who rolled her eyes in response.

What a horrifying match.

"Can't you see, Mother? He is incredibly narcissistic for his own good. He doesn't love anyone except for himself.", I reasoned out, my voice rising in an octave. And Audrey, I guess.

"That's enough! You dare speak disrespectfully to your mother and fiance, young lady. You will marry Prince Chad Charming and that is final.", Eric, my oh-so-beloved father stated firmly while glaring at me. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. How could they do this to me? I don't even want to get married at this age, let alone marry that svulmehoved. I stared back at father defiantly, my eyes watering in frustration as I tried to hold back my disdain and disappointment. Seeing my tearful face, he sighed sorrowfully. His hand rubbed his face as he turned away from me. "This is for your own good, allerkæreste"

I watched his back as he walked out of the room. My legs gave out as I slumped on my bed. A single tear ran down my face as I clenched my hand tightly. I could see Mother from the corner of my eyes slowly approaching me with a forlorn look. "Your father is right, darling. I hope you'll think about this." She whispered softly while wiping my cheeks. Scrunching my face, I turned my back towards her before saying, "Why don't you just lock me inside Father's castle like what Grandpa did to you."

An unbearable silence filled the room before I heard her sigh. Patting my shoulders softly, she stood up and left the room but not before whispering softly. "We just want what's best for you, min sød melodi."

I scoffed sarcastically as I heard the door shut down. It's not like I didn't know they're only doing this because of what happened with King Ben. Breaking off my arranged engagement with King Ben deeply hurt their pride as the neighboring kingdom's King and Queen, but it was for the best. Seeing my bedste ven practically glowing in happiness with his elskede was more than enough reason to stop this arrangement, and thankfully, Ben's family was so welcoming with idea but that's not the case for my parents, I guess. After all, a hundred years of formed connection and relationship were instantly broken by the appearance of Mal, daughter of the evil sorceress, Maleficent. Although they said they were fine, forcing me to marry Chad Charming only proved that they're definitely not over it. Their desire to build a stable relationship with other kingdoms is so intense that they would rather marry their daughter off to some a-hole prince while disguising it with superficial love and protection. I know they're probable floating in love but it's not for everyone. Not to me. And especially not for Chadgotistic.
