Kaylie

He still isn’t home. He said that he would come home tonight after the concert and stay for his break, but he isn’t here yet. I’ve called, but it goes straight to voicemail. His phone is still off. He won’t answer his texts either.

to: luke

hey luke, where are you? call or text me back as soon as you can. love you x

Instead of jumping to conclusions, I grab my phone and go upstairs to get ready for bed. "He’s just running a little late. No big deal." Even though I keep telling myself this, I can’t stop checking my phone. I sigh and head back downstairs, deciding to watch a movie on the couch while I wait.

-

An hour or so into the first Harry Potter movie, my phone rings. I pause the movie and answer without looking at the caller ID.

“Hello?”

“Hey babe, sorry I’m running late. We stayed and said hi to some fans after the show. I was going to text you, but my phone died before I could. I had to call you on Cal’s phone. You alright?”

“Oh, it’s okay. Are you coming home soon?”

“Yeah, I’m leaving now. I’ll see you soon princess. Love you.”

“I love you too, bye!”

I ended the call, happy that he would be here soon, and that he wasn’t doing anything stupid. Pushing play on the remote, I set my phone on the coffee table and shifted so that I was lying down on the couch.

-

I didn’t realize that I had fallen asleep until I felt someone’s arms lift me up. I panicked at first, but once I realized who it was, I calmed a bit and smiled as he carried me up the stairs.

“Hi Luke,” I said. He smirked and said, “Hey there beautiful, you tired?”

Yawning, I shook my head. “Nope.”

Luke just chuckled and set me down on the bed, pulling the covers back. “Sure you aren't,” he said while he kicked his shoes off and joined me. I hit him lightly and scooted closer, nuzzling my head into his chest. “Ouch!” he gasped. I looked up at him and stuck my tongue out. He laughed.

“Shush, I’m sleeping,” I whispered, only half serious. He sighed and started messing with my hair.

Once he thought I was sleeping, he whispered, “I missed you so much. You’re the only reason I came back here, you know. Everyone else I’ve ever loved left me. Thank you for not giving up on me yet. I love you.”

That’s the last thing I heard before I drifted into unconsciousness.

-

I woke up to the feeling of someone’s eyes on me. I took a breath and said, “You know, it’s kind of weird to watch someone while they sleep, Mr. Hemmings.” When I opened my eyes, he smirked.

“It doesn’t count as creepy if you haven’t seen someone in ages and are appreciating the fact that you have the opportunity to stare at them while they sleep,” Luke said, very matter-of-factly, with that stupid smirk still stuck on his face.

“Whatever you say,” I said as I rolled my eyes. “What’s for breakfast?”

He feigned hurt, “Can’t I just have a few minutes to appreciate this?”

I pretended to be deep in thought for a millisecond. “Hmm... nah. Too hungry. Whether you’re coming or not, I’m going to go scavenge through the kitchen to find something to eat.”

Throwing the covers back, I climb out of bed and go straight into the kitchen. I can hear Luke laugh and I wait for him to follow me. By the time he makes it to the kitchen, I’m sitting at the table eating cereal. “Yours is on the counter, but I didn’t pour the milk yet. I figured you might be a while, slow poke,” I said jokingly.

Luke rolled his eyes and smiled, “Thank you.” He grabbed his bowl and pulled out the chair across from mine at the table.

We ate in silence for a few minutes. But it wasn’t uncomfortable; it was nice just being in each other’s presence. I had finished before he was done and was just watching him chase around the last fruit loop in the bowl. He was concentrating so hard it was hilarious.

“Screw this,” he got up and put his bowl in the sink, rinsing it out, and turning on the garbage disposal. “There,” he muttered under his breath. I couldn’t help but laugh at him. Luke turned around to look at me. “It’s not funny! That fucking fruit loop deserved it!”

Of course, this only made me laugh more. I walked over and wrapped my arms around his torso. “Okay, okay, I guess it did. ‘That fucking fruit loop’ got what it deserved. Happy?”

“Not yet,” he said. I looked up at him, and as soon as I did, he kissed my forehead, my nose, both of my cheeks, and then my lips. It wasn’t a very long kiss; it was short and sweet. But I didn’t mind. I was just happy that it happened.

“I’m happy now,” Luke said, smiling cheekily. I smiled back.

“Yeah, me too.”
