[ hi hey hello okay so this is basically kaylie's pov of everything that went down in the last chapter ]Kaylie
“So he’s back? For how long?” my friend Charlie asked. She left over the summer to visit family so we resorted to Skype for communicating.
“For like a month I think.” I was so happy that he had gotten a break. The guys have been looking so exhausted lately and I was ecstatic when Luke told me that they were coming home.
“Oh cool. Is he home?”
“Nah, he had some band thing to go to. I’ll tell him you said hi though,” I told her. I heard a yell in the background, and she said that she had to go.
“Oh okay. Bye! Love you!”
“You too!”
Charlie waved goodbye and ended the call. Luke was going to be gone for at least a few more hours so I needed something to do. But what? I closed Skype and set my laptop down, heading into the kitchen to find some pizza rolls to snack on before I logged into Netflix and went to start the second season of American Horror Story.
Two and a half episodes and a bag of pizza rolls later, I got bored and grabbed my guitar, strumming the chords to What It’s Like by Everlast, and then Amnesia. This went on for the next hour or so until my phone started going crazy with notifications.
What the heck? I’m not that popular. Why would my phone suddenly explode like that if I had less than active followers on Twitter and anybody in my contacts that wasn’t busy? I ignore it until I decide that it is not going to stop any time soon.
When I went to grab the phone, it started ringing. It was Charlie.
“Hey Kaylie, did you hear about what happened with Luke?”
This made me worried. Is he hurt? Did something go wrong in the interview? Did he get mobbed?
“No, is he okay? What happened?” I answered.
“Yeah, he’s fine. I just wanted to make sure you were okay-”
“Okay with what?”
“Kaylie...he spilled the beans about your relationship. He told the interviewer and now it’s everywhere and fans are flipping shit and they somehow found your Twitter and I wanted to be there for you when you found out…” She trailed on. I got up and walked over to my laptop, pulling up Twitter to check it out from there.
News articles. Fan messages, both good and bad towards Luke and myself. Vines of him admitting to having a girlfriend along with edits of it. And that was just the beginning.
I didn’t mind some of the messages. I appreciated the fans that didn’t send hate and death threats and I tried to not let the others get to me.
“You still there? Hello?” Charlie said, interrupting my thoughts.
“Uh… yeah… I’m here…” I half-heartedly responded. I can’t believe he told everyone. He said that he wouldn’t until we both decided it was time. Until I said that I was ready. He doesn’t realize what he’s done.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah, listen, Charlie, I’m gonna go for now. Sort things out. I’m okay. It’s gonna be okay,” I said, trying to convince myself more than I was trying to convince her.
“Don’t feed me that baloney, you’re not okay. Don’t do anything stupid, please. I’ll stay on the phone with you until he gets home if I have to, to make sure of that.”
“I’m serious Charlie, I’m fine. It’s no big deal, just some stupid haters trying to get under my skin. I’ll talk to you later, bye!” I said quickly, hanging up before she could say anything else.
After scrolling through as many of the messages as I could take, I slammed my computer shut, getting up to clear my head somehow. I paced back and forth in the living room trying to figure out what to do next.
Unpleasant thoughts kept running through my head and I couldn’t decide which was making me angrier; the messages or the fact that he told everyone which in turn caused the messages. Probably the latter.
I can’t believe him! He deliberately went against what we had agreed on and he didn’t even call to check up on me or say “oh hey, yeah, I kind of told the world about our relationship I hope you’re okay with that!” He’s just so… so… UGH. He makes me want to rip my hair out at times. But still, I put up with him. Why? I’ll get back to you on that.
I make up my mind and head into the bedroom, searching for the car keys. I could have sworn I put them on the dresser. Checking my bag, I see that they are in there and grab them, slipping on some shoes and getting ready to head out the door. I quickly do a double check, making sure to grab my phone before I leave. That would be embarrassing.
When I open the door, I don’t know what to do.
Luke is standing there, arm outstretched like he was about to open the door. He quickly lowers his arm as we both just stand there awkwardly, not sure what to say. He was the one to break the silence.
“Where are you going?” I saw his eyes flash down to my hand, which was now clenched tightly around the keys. I tried to hide them behind my back but he had already noticed.
He took a step towards me and I took a step back as he closed the door behind himself.
“I, uh, nowhere...” I replied, barely a whisper.
“Where?”
“Just a friend’s house! It’s no big deal.”
“Why? You knew I was coming back soon. What’s so important that you couldn’t tell me?” Does he really not know what he did?
I just shook my head in frustration and kicked at the ground, avoiding his harsh stare.
“Tell me!”
“You told, Luke. You told the whole world about us and now... well, why don’t you just check Twitter?” I explained. He just stood there. Do something, Luke. Apologize. Please. Make me stay.
“Whatever, Luke. Thanks for the sympathy.” I gave up when he remained quiet.
I finally built up enough courage to push past him and out the door, slamming it behind myself in anger.
And he did nothing to stop me.
