I was really worried about how the next hour or so was going to play out, here's the plan, I sing on the main stage, the Phantom shows up, me Jack and The Doctor how a nice long talk with him and then we get him out of the opera house with Christine and they lead a nice happy life with each other, sounds good on paper, but I wasn’t expecting the plan to go smoothly at all, The managers however wanted to put their feet in the door and make some money out of this plan, much to The Doctor and Jack's annoyance they reluctantly agreed to the idea, basic terms it’s a preview of a new show, but it would just involve me Christine, Meg and the ensemble, none of us wanted Carlotta around for the joy of it all, not that she would anyway, still it was a relief anyway.
Much to my annoyance I had to agree to some of the managers request, it wasn’t too much but I still didn’t like it, it was a nice dress don’t get me wrong, but I felt very uncomfortable wearing it, it was a simple dark green gown with gold lining sewn in, I was getting ready to go the stage when someone knocked on the dressing room door, I was sorting my hair at that point,
'Come in' the door opened and Jack came into the room, I was guessing he was going to be my escort downstairs, with the door open, I could faintly hear chatter coming from the stalls,
'Bloody hell, how many are their? ' He didn’t seem too happy with the idea either,
'Thirty maximum, nothing to worry about, you probably won't be able to see them from the stage' that wasn’t very encouraging, but if they maybe could see the Phantom for themselves, then maybe it could bring an end to this chaos, I got up an readied myself to go, Jack then pulled out the key he gave me earlier, I took it and slid it under my sleeve, he looked at me funny and made me a bit arsey,
'What!? , the space is now well and truly occupied' he sniggered at my comment, luckily I had the impression he didn’t swing my way, good thing too, I don’t date dead guys,
'Shall we? ' He held his arm out to me and I hooked mine around it,
'Indeed' we took a slow walk to the stage, but still something about Jack was bugging me, and I couldn’t wait any longer to ask him,
'Jack, you did die didn’t you? , I mean earlier backstage'
' Yep I did, wasn’t the first time and it certainly won't be the last' I was a little bit stunned by his answer, but I wanted to know more,
'What do you mean it wasn’t the first time, are you an alien or something? '
'It’s a long story, but basically I died during battle, a friend of mine brought me back by accident and now I guess you could say I'm immortal'
'Why was it an accident? , surely you're not calling yourself an accident? '
'The Doctor calls me an accident, I shouldn’t of been brought back in all honesty, the dead shouldn’t be brought back, people die and then that’s it, that’s how he sees it all, all the time'
'I didn’t think he was human, the silver pen thing gave it away a little' we both laughed at that, we were now backstage and The Doctor was running around like a mad thing, by the looks of it Jack was used to it, I was still trying to get hold of the fact that The Doctor was an alien, I had held an alien's hand, I was zoning out when he jumped in front of us,
'Right everything is all ready to go, Sarah are you sure about this, we can just take you home and you won't have to worry about this'
'Doctor if I go home I will feel guilty about leaving him in this state, It's my fault he's become like this'
'No It's not Sarah, not in the slightest and you know it, abuse and torture have done this to him, and we are going to help him, all of us' now I was nervous, I want to help Erik desperately, but The Doctors right, maybe he can't be saved, maybe his mind really is too far gone, but still, I couldn’t go home without trying,
'Right Jack, you go to the other side of the stage and keep watch, I'm going to go up top, the moment you see him, try and calm him down, don’t let him get away, otherwise we'll never catch him' please Erik let us help you, I kept repeating it in my head, right up until I was about to go on stage, as I waited to go on, I could see Jack over on the other side, he gave me a thumbs up and I nodded in reply, I took a deep breath and walked out on to the stage, the light was dim and I could hear the audience mumbling, I looked at the conductor and he gave me the go ahead, I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and let my lungs open up,
Some people long for a life that is simple and planned
Tied with a ribbon
Some people won't sail the sea 'cause they're safer on land
To follow what's written
But I'd follow you to the great unknown
Off to a world we call our own
