Japanese Language Lessons - 4 Verbs (Nomimasu, Tabemasu, Mimasu, Kikimasu) - Japanese Lesson 5 (p.2 of 2)

you can omit the watashi wa because it's obvious that you are the one who's drinking the wine. You can simply say Wain o nomimasu. But if the subject isn't you, let's say your friend whose name is April, you can say Eipuru san wa wain o nomimasu. That means April is drinking wine.

The wo/o particle follows the object of the verb to show which the object is. In that sentence, the object is wain. It is followed by o to emphasize the object.

I didn't eat pizza.

Piza o tabemasen deshita.

This has no time expression like kinoo (yesterday) but I used the past negative form because did is past tense.

I watched movie.

Eiga o mimashita.

I am not listening to CD.

CD o kikimasen.

Remember the time expressions?

Kinoo - yesterday

Kyou - today

Ashita - tomorrow

You can add these in the beginning of the sentence.

Examples:

I will watch movie tomorrow.

Ashita eiga o mimasu.

I did not drink wine yesterday.

Kinoo wain o nomimasen deshita.

Let's make questions. Just add ka after the sentence.

Did you watch movie yesterday?

Kinoo eiga o mimashita ka?

Answers may be:

Yes, I did.

Hai, mimashita.

No, I didn't

Iie, mimasen deshita.

Are you going to eat sushi tomorrow?

Ashita sushi o tabemasu ka?

Possible answers:

Yes, I am.

Hai, tabemasu.

No, I am not.

Iie, tabemasen.

That's all for today. See you again on Lesson 6!
