Follow the Beat

Forty-fourth Entry

Dear Diary,

Isaac was driving me home, completely ecstatic. When we pulled into his driveway, he was still going on about how wonderfully our performance went. My mother was close behind us, pulling into our driveway.

"Gwen! I'm heading in for the night. I don't care if you stay the night over there, or here, but don't stay up too late, okay? Oh! And Isaac! Your mom is still at Cathy's. She asked me to tell you. She said something about a famous cake recipe?" My mother shouted at us. Isaac's eyebrows shot up in disbelief.

"She's still there? Good lord." He chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. My mom nodded.

"Yeah. She asked me this morning to tell you before I got home. I would've told you when I walked in the door, but I was little drunk off my ass. By the way, great performance you two! I'm so proud of you guys." She grinned at us, and I studied the small crinkles around her eyes. She smiled a lot, and I was glad to see one on her face now.

We waved at her, thanking her as she walked inside. With that, we headed inside. Shoving a few microwaved burritos down our throats, we curled up on the couch and watched "Gone with the Wind" until three in the morning.

i don't remember being carried to Isaac's room. I don't remember him taking my heels off, helping me out of my dress. I don't remember putting on a pair of his boxers and his favorite t-shirt. I don't remember studying the superman logo on the boxers as he pulled me onto the bed. I don't remember him tucking me in next to him under the blankets.

But I do remember him slinging his arm over me, pulling me close to his body. I do remember him planting a kiss on my temple.

And I remember turning around to kiss him back.
