Chapter Thirty

Mai's POV;

***

"Tensions have been too high around here lately." Tsenumori scorned as he paced the room in front of us. He had his arms behind his back and his eyes were locked on the ground right in front of him. Tsenumori  reminded me of an angry high school principal, about to ream out a group of his badly behaved students. His favorite hobby had to be calling last minute meetings, because surprise, surprise, he did it again this morning. Although he did give everyone a whole hour notice instead of his usual fifteen minutes. Instead of using the mundane conference rooms he usually does, Tsenumori decided it would be best to hold the meeting in Ryuzaki's lair due to it's confidential nature. Mogi and Matsuda sat on either side of me on the large white couch that sat in the corner of the room. Enya sat in an office chair adjacent to the couch and Ryuzaki stayed in his usual corner of the room, watching the surveillance monitors for any strange behavior. Light and Misa were sitting together, of course, on a smaller couch that was opposite to the couch I sat on.

For the first time in a long time, I had actually gotten a full eight hours or so of sleep thanks to Ryuk. After being woken up by Matsuda informing me of the meeting, I was able to actually do my hair, makeup and get breakfast before the meeting. Between not being exhausted and having time to prepare for the day, I was in a surprisingly good mood despite all of the unnecessary drama going on. Tsenumori was right, there was way too much tension around here lately. We all had some serious business to work out with each other, but first, we needed to deal with the problem at hand; The eleven expendable agents that were killed a few nights ago.

"Despite the bullshit going on, everyone is gonna have to be professionals here because we have a major problem. I called you all here this morning to discuss what happened a few nights ago. In case anyone forgot, eleven of my agents were killed when only one of them was supposed to. This has caused panic to break out across those eleven counties. People aren't leaving their houses, people aren't going to work, and well, that's an issue. Especially for hospitals. The elderly and sick are dying quickly because people are refusing to save their lives by not going to work." Tsenumori sighed and rubbed his temples. "Any suggestions? Because I'm fresh out of ideas." He dropped down hard into a chair that sat next to Light and Misa's couch.

Everyone was silent for a moment before Enya finally spoke up. "No one was expecting eleven people to die. The original plan was to figure out which county S resided in by seeing which reporter was killed and shutting it down so we could at least pinpoint him to one specific region. When they started dropping left and right, well, we just had to let it be because we couldn't shut down eleven different counties. No way we would have gotten approval." Enya shrugged, throwing his head back and staring at the ceiling.

"So what does that mean?" Mogi asked, his leg bouncing up and down nervously. "This is way different from the original case so I honestly don't know how either Matsuda or myself can be of help here."

"The more the merrier." Light added in, glancing at Mogi and then at me. His eyes squinted as he shot me a friendly smile. Nodding in return, I averted my eyes to the ground. Does he really not remember anything? I'm gonna have to ask Ryuk later tonight.

"It means that we've got a minimum of eleven people with Death Notes, which is highly unlikely, or we've got one person with a Death Note, who can be in eleven places at once, which is also highly unlikely." Enya added in, still staring at the ceiling.
