Chapter 7 - Training Day 1

Hazel Donna's P.O.V - District 3

"In two weeks, twenty three of you will be dead, one of you will be alive. Who that is depends on how well you pay attention over the next few days, particularly to what I'm about to say. First; no fighting with the other tributes, you'll have plenty of time for that at the arena. There are three compulsory exercises, the rest will be individual training. My advice is don't ignore the survival skills. Everybody wants to grab a sword, but most of you will die from natural causes, ten percent from infection, twenty percent from dehydration. Exposure can kill as easily as a knife. Happy hunger games and may the odds be ever in your favour." Says the head trainer.
Another trainer steps forwards. "Your first compulsory exercise will be an obstacle course. The course will contain climbing, running, jumping and a maze. It is also a race, three people will compete at a time and your progress will be tracked by cameras so the rest of the tributes and the gamemakers can see how you perform. Up first is Hazel, Triton and Kermit. Good luck."
I take my place at the starting line. I see that we are all in different lanes, I hope it stays that way.
"Three! Two! One!" A cannon sounds and I leap forward. The first obstacle approaches. There are several ropes hanging from the ceiling and a three metre drop below. I swing from rope to rope, it's harder than it looks but I manage not to fall. I have been so busy concentrating on the ropes that I haven't noticed that we are no longer in lanes. Triton has a good lead over me, he is almost at the end of the first obstacle. Behind me is Kermit, dangling from the first rope.
I finish the first obstacle and approach the second one, it's a maze. I get to the first fork in the maze, it's a three way split. I choose the right one and am relieved when it is the correct path. After a few more paths I get to the end of the maze. It looks like I am the first to finish, although I hear somebody close behind. The next section is a long hall, the running part. I'm not very fast but I try my hardest. I can see Triton catching up in my pe referral vision. He is very fast. By the end of the hall way he has passed me. We get to the next obstacle which is a climbing obstacle. We have to rock climb up a five metre wall. I am a little bit better at climbing than Triton is although he still has a strong lead on me when we finish. The final obstacle is a jumping challenge. There are numerous platforms that we have to jump from, although they are moving up and down. I clear the first few easily, but on the last one I slip. At the last second I grasp the platform with my hand, and pull myself back up. I run the last few metres to the finish line where the twenty-one remaining tributes wait. Triton finishes half a minute before me. I didn't do too bad but I could have done better.

Rocky Chow's P.O.V - District 6

"Ok, congratulations Triton. Next up Rocky, Cheetah and Sasha."
Sasha laughs maniacally. "Good luck."
I smile at Cheetah. 'Good luck' she mouths. The cannon sounds and I run as fast as I can to the first obstacle, which is monkey ropes. I swing from rope to rope. The three of us are all pretty close, I can't even tell who is coming first. We get through the maze and I am stunned to find I am coming last, Cheetah and Sasha are running up the hallway before me. I follow them to the next obstacle. I climb the rock wall to find myself right on their tails. On the last obstacle we are all head to head, it could be anybody's game. When we finally finish we don't know who won. The event leader talks to some other trainers, then they come back with the results.
"The winner of this round is Cheetah." She says. We all clap. I'm glad I chose Cheetah for an alliance, I think I have a good chance with her.

Missy Mellow's P.O.V - District 11

Two more groups go. Out of Vare, Stella and Libby, Libby won. The second group was Ami, Felicia and Silver, Ami won. We sit awaiting the calling of the next three people.
"Next up, Thunder, Dust, and Missy." Says the event leader. Good, they should be easy competitors.
When the cannon sounds I get a good start and power through the first obstacle. I get a little bit lost in the maze but I still have a good lead on the others when I exit. The running is what holds me back. Thunder manages to get ahead although after the final obstacles I take back the crown. I finish a few metres in front of Thunder, I'm proud of my victory.
