Natsuki's P.O.V:
I cuddled closer to Sayori, my heart pounding faster than a racing car. Things were going so splendidly - I should have known it was never going to last. But I was foolish. I kept holding on to the lie that maybe things were going my way for once. I should stop fooling myself. If I did, maybe these things wouldn't happen.
Sayori was so warm. I buried my face further into her chest and heard her heart pounding heavily. Perhaps she was scared too? It wouldn't surprise me. My father was the type of person who scared anyone he came across.
I wanted to think about other things, but the fear of my father restricted me from doing so. I hated this. All I wanted was peace. I never asked for my father to abuse me. I never asked for mum to die.
I never asked to be born.
Suddenly, the thuds abruptly stopped. The silence surrounding me was thick and suspenseful. I turned to Sayori slowly.
"Sayori..." I whispered, my voice reflecting how I felt - vunerable and frightened. "Could you please look out of the window?"
"Of course. Stay here, please..." Sayori stood up, and quietly tiptoed across the carpet, climbing carefully on her bed and peeking out of the window.
Sayori shivered visibly, and slowly turned to me. The look in her sky blue eyes said it all.
"He was staring right back at me..." Sayori whispered. I shivered, feeling terrible. I couldn't believe I had brought Sayori into this...
"I'm sorry..." I murmured, my voice warbling. I began to sob. "I never should have got you involved... I never should have told you... this is a-all my f-fault..."
Sayori rushed over and pulled me into another tight hug. My heart began to pound. "No, Natsuki. Don't you dare blame yourself. You're doing the right thing."
"How am I..?" I sobbed more, distressed. "I ran away from home, I angered my father, I told you, which means he will probably hurt you, too..."
"Natsuki, honey, I want you to listen to me." I looked up at her, as her sky-blue eyes glistened with determination. "I don't care if I hurt myself helping you. Honestly, I'd probably die for you, Natsuki."
"Y-You would?" I stared at her, slightly taken aback. No one had ever said that to me before. I wondered if she was joking.
I looked into her eyes again.
She was serious.
"Yes." Sayori stroked my hair reassuringly. "I have a plan, but you're probably not going to like it."
"Let me hear it."
"I'm going to go downstairs, get my phone, and then we're going to call the police."
I pondered that idea for a moment. "What if it doesn't work?"
"I'll make sure it will." Her eyes flashed with more determination. My heart pounded heavily.
"In that case, I guess it's worth a try."
