4. Telling the family

TELLING THE FAMILY

"So" Claudia said when I sat down beside Jacob after the dinner. I looked at her and she had a sly grin on her face. Joseph was no exception as he used a smirk to cover the fact that they were hiding something.

"Anything you want to tell us" Joseph said as if he knows we are hiding something.

"Nothing at all" I say beating Jacob who was about to talk. Who knows what he could say.

"Are you sure. Cause all this seems too weird" Joseph said. I studied his face. I take in all possibilities. I look at him keenly and he just smirks at me while Claudia purposefully avoids my face. They probably heard our conversation.

"Nothing at all that we all need to know?" Claudia said and I was convinced beyond reasonable doubt that the heard.

Mom and aunty Olivia turned to face us. Probably trying as hard as possible to hear what I want to say or more preferably what they want to hear. Dad and uncle Johann were already discussing business as usual in the study leaving us with our burdensome mom who think it's nice to use hip slang and all.

"Yo Eileen" aunty Olivia said and Jacob groaned beside me.

"Mom please don't" Joseph said and his mom stared laughing.

"Why you kids always thinking we are not cool" my mom said.

"Because you are too old for that" Claudia said. "Come on Eil there must be something you want to tell us" she said and this time Jacob beat me to it.

"We are dating" he said plainly and I could see Claudia trying to fake an expression of surprise.

"I know you guys listened in" I say and they smiled.

"Dating?" aunty Olivia said with shock. Yes she doesn't know and now she knows.

"Yeah. Eil and Jacob are dating now" Caludia said dreamily with Joseph making a disgusted face.

"You are joking right. Eil hasn't dated anybody since-" my mom began.

"Since Scott" I finish for her and they all gasp. They find it weird that I say his name but maybe I was too sentimental about it and then decide that it was a good idea to not say his name. "We are actually dating now" I say and my mom gasps again.

"Congrats" aunty Olivia finally said but then turned to Jacob. "I thought you were back with Janine?" she asked her son and he sighed loudly.

"Mom she wants us to get together but I'm not into her again. I'm into Eileen now" he replied and I just rolled my eyes at him. He was entirely stupid.

"Whatever" my mom said. "I always knew eil had a crush on you" my mom said and I glared but she just got into the business of her story telling. "You know she was always eager to see him and she hated that girl -whats her name again?" she asked trying so hard to recollect the name.

"Janine" aunty Olivia helped her. "And you think Jacob is different?" she asked and they went into the business of what they thougtwas the actually truth.

"Let's go Claudia" I say standing up.

"Yeah mom, we will be heading home now" Jacob said addressing his mom. "Come on Joseph" she said to him and he stood up brushing his pants with his hands before extending his arms to help Claudia to her feet.

"Have fun guys" aunty Olivia shouted behind us.

"Be home soon" Joseph shouted back to her.

We got out and Jacob held my hand so that they can move ahead us.

"So you had a crush on me?" he asked a teasing smile playing on his lips.

"Are you any different?" I say coping his mom's earlier choice of words.

"My mom says crazy things you know" he said trying to shrug it off.

"And so does my mom" I reply back.

"So did you have a crush on me?" he asked and I smiled.

"Yeah" I say remembering everything. "Back at freshman year highschool" I say and he returns to me.

"I never had an idea. Would have a move on you" he says with all seriousness but the smile not leaving his face.

"May have not lasted. I mean crush died off weeks later" I say and he frowns.

"Just like that?" he ask and I nod.

"I guess I was just fantasised by the puberty you were going through" I tell him and he just nods.

As we near the car. I discover that Claudia was winning Joseph in arm wrestling on the top of my car. I mean the hood of my Benz. Are they mad.

"Get your hands off the hood of my baby" I scream at them. Joseph turns to smirk at me.

"Yeah whatever" they say standing up Qn backing away in mock surrender.

"I will see you later"
