I sat on a beach towel reading a book. It was about five and I hadn’t went in the water yet. Everybody else was having fun. Will was playing volleyball with the rest of the guys at one point. But now they were just doing whatever.
“Hey Tye.” A male plopped down next to me. “Wanna play a game?” Dana took the book from my hands and closed it, setting it to the side.
“What kind of game? What do I have to do?” I asked, I really just wanted to get back to my book but then I thought, ‘Why not just humor Dana’ I could always just get back to her book later.
Dana thought for a moment looking around. “Well, we’re at a beach. I mean there are a lot of other things you could do besides read.” The boy removed his sunglasses with a smile. I began to smile uncontrollably, I loved Dana’s smile, it just couldn’t be helped.
“I suppose you’re right.” I stood up, looking around. “I’ll just come back to it later.”
Dana stood up as well. “Who wears a sweatshirt over a bikini, anyway?” He looked rather confused.
“Just really ugly old scars.” An awkward laugh came out after I had said that. I looked down remembering what had happened once again. I shook my head as I looked up at him. “They’re mostly faded and gone but I’m not comfortable with it yet.”
Dana nodded in understanding as he held his hand out to me, which I took, he then lead me over to a smoothie stand. I don’t exactly know how this was a game but I didn’t question it. “What do you want?” Dana asked looking up at the big board over the stand with all the things you could get on it.”
“D-” I was about to say something but then got cut off.
“Hey, Tyler!” The voice of a male rang out, the voice seemed familiar but I couldn’t figure out where I had heard it from. “Long time no see.”
I turned slightly to face the guy who had called my name. My ex. Luke. I looked down, I couldn’t look him in the eye. My chest began to feel hollow, I was having trouble breathing. “H-hi, Luke.” Those words were all I could manage.
“Good to see you again.” As luke said this Eve walked up, noticing who it was that I was talking to. “Wanna get dinner tonight. It’s been a while. We should catch up.”
“She has plans with her boyfriend tonight.” Eve said flatly. “She can’t.”
“You have a boyfriend?” Dana asked giving my a confused look. He let go of my hand. I hesitantly shook my head yes. I mean I didn’t, but I needed Luke to believe I did. Or atleast thats what I gathered from what was going on with Eve. “Oh, I didn’t know.” Dana put his hands in his pocket.
Luke smiled. “If it’s not the guy you were just holding hands with then who is it?” Luke asked curiously. The smile he had just had turned into a smirk. “We can still go out to dinner tonight. Bring your boyfriend. I want to meet him.”
“Her and her boyfriend have a date!” Eve snapped. “She can’t just rearrange everything.”
“I’ll make reservations for three then. There is this really good restaurant. You know the one that you loved.” Luke looked at me straight in the eyes.
I shook my head. “I already have plans.”
“I wanna meet your boyfriend.”
“I already have plans.”
“Just come to dinner with me so I can meet your boyfriend. I’ll pay and everything.”
“If I say yes will you stop?!” I hissed, not really wanting to be in this conversation any longer.
“Yes.”
“Then fine!!” I threw my hands up in frustration.
Tonight was going to be a long night.
