Adjusting to the fact that you needed to change schools wasn't exactly easy.
Granted there wasn't exactly anyone for you to leave behind, but it was still difficult to get used to a whole new school that had a whole new way of working.
Forks High School had been your school for the past four years however when it came to your last year or so being there, you knew that you just couldn't do it anymore.
Throughout your time at the Forks High School you had been tormented relentlessly which led to the decline of your mental health.
Your parents had been relatively understanding of what you had went through and that's why they had agreed to go through with the transfer.
The reservation school was the only other school in Forks so that was your only option.
It was strange when you had started there – you knew that the reservation school rarely had people from the main town of Forks, so you were one of very few in the school that wasn't a part of the tribe.
What was a surprise to you, however, was the fact that you had been able to make some friends.
Embry had been around you since day one which you did not understand because there were so many other girls that he could've gone for.
You didn't avoid him per say but you found it difficult to respond to his texts.
As you had a free day from school, you'd gone to the beach where you'd seen Embry and his friends diving before.
Whilst you were sat on the sand someone came to sit down next to you.
"Hey Y/N," Embry greeted you.
You turned to smile at him but decided against saying anything.
He sighed as he continued to keep his eyes on you. "You still haven't replied to my texts."
"I'm sorry," you sighed as you apologised. "I do hate saying no to hanging out with you Embry, but I just can't."
Embry's expression turned to confusion. "You're sat with me now Y/N," he reminded you. "So, what is the difference with hanging out somewhere else?"
You shook your head in disagreement. "I don't deserve you Embry."
He went to say something, but you stopped him.
"There are so many other girls that you could be with," you told him as you stared out at the ocean. "I'd advise you going after someone who isn't so broken."
Embry reached out to hold your head. "You are not broken."
You shook your head, releasing a deep breath. "I am," you stated. "I was hurt for a long time at my old school – everything they told me, I do still believe, and I don't know if I can talk myself out of it."
"That's why I'm here."
"I'll only hurt you," you told him as you felt tears growing in your eyes. "I have days where I don't want to leave my bed, the thought of leaving the house makes me sick, everything is just too much for me and I don't have any energy to do anything," you explained to him in an effort to get him to understand.
Embry moved so that he could wrap his arm around your shoulder. "It's okay to struggle Y/N," he reassured you. "And it's okay to be depressed – the people you are surrounded with now won't treat you the way those horrid people did back at the high school."
"You don't know that."
He chuckled. "I do know that because you are family to us – we protect our own and more importantly, we help them when they don't think they can help themselves."
"You've known me for a few months."
"And that's all it takes, I knew from the day I met you that I needed to get to know you."
A confused expression crossed your face. "Why?
He smiled, pressing a light kiss to your cheek causing you to blush. "That's a story for another day Y/N."
"I won't ever deserve you Embry, and I still think you should find someone else because I am broken even if you say I'm not."
Embry sighed before he pulled you even closer to him. "There won't be anyone else for me – that's not how we work here."
You didn't answer him, so you opted for staring out at the sea once again.
"And we are all broken in one way or another but it's about finding that special person that can fix us."
