Chapter 7 ~ Surprise!

Collette's POV**

"You're the best, Shay," I said as I wished the boys good night and went to my room to get ready. I walked in and to my surprise there was a positive pregnancy test sitting on the bathroom counter. I was so excited! That explains the morning sickness and it must've needed more time to load and Shay and I just didn't give it enough time. All of a sudden, I didn't feel tired anymore. I wanted to go to the store to buy another pregnancy test, just to be sure. I ran down the stairs and out the door into the suburban. Then I realized that Shay didn't know where I was. I called him.

S: Hey babe. Are you that tired that you couldn't walk down the stairs?

C: Actually, I'm in the car. I just all of a sudden really wanted to make a surprise breakfast for the kids.

I lied.

S: Oh! Okay, then! Are you sure you're feeling alright? Just 5 minutes ago you were about to fall asleep walking up the steps.

C: Yea! I'm totally fine! But I need you to do something for me.

S: Anything!

C: So, the breakfast will be for you, too. I need you to be in our bedroom when I come home. That way at least the food part will be a surprise for you.

S: Okay, I'll be waiting for you in our bed.

C: Okay, thanks! See you soon!

S: Bye!

I wasn't actually going to buy breakfast for everyone. I just said that to throw Shay off guard. I was just going to quickly go into the store and grab a pregnancy test. I pulled into Walgreens (24 hour grocery and pharmacy) and went to where the pregnancy tests are. I got one and checked out at the desk.

When I got home I stuck the test in my pocket just in case Shay didn't listen. It turns out he did because no one was downstairs. I tiptoed up the stairs and quietly knocked on our bedroom.

"Come in!" Shay said with a tired voice. He was watching TV. "Hey honey! Come here!" He patted on the bed where I would lay.

"I will. I'm just going to grab my pajamas and go to the bathroom first," I said as I walked into the bathroom.

"Okay, I'll be waiting!"

I closed the door all the way and took the test out of my pocket. I quietly opened it while the water was running so Shay wouldn't hear it. I peed on the stick and sat there waiting for a result. Luckily the test was progressing way faster this time. I waited for about two more minutes before it was clearly visible that I was indeed pregnant with our 6th child. I hid the test with the other one in my drawer and walked out to lay with Shay.

"Crazy day, huh?" Shay said as I lean up against him.

"Yeah, tell me about it!" I say. I'm getting ready to break the news. "And you know what?"

"Yea?"

"I have something that will end the day just great. Shay, I'm pregnant!" I was already tearing up. I was just so happy.

"No way! I thought that test said that it was negative!"

"Well, we didn't wait long enough. It must've fully progressed that night when we took Emmi to the hospital. So I saw it just before when I came to get ready. I hid it from you and went to Walgreens to buy another one just to make sure and it was positive as well!"

"So that's what you were doing? I thought the breakfast thing seemed weird! Collette this is great! I'm so excited!"

"When should we tell everyone? It's September 28 now."

"I think we should wait the same amount we did with Daxton. That would put us around Christmas. We could tell them as a a Christmas present!" Shay said happily.

"We could put a note in a box that says 'We're Pregnant!' and give one to each of the grandparents!" I was crying now.

"Oh, honey! Can you believe it? 6 kids! Just like you wanted! Are you excited?"

"Shay, I'm so excited and happy and nervous all at the same time! When should we tell the kids? How about we tell them a few days before Christmas that way they'll know before the grandparents but they'll only have a few days to spoil it." he smiled with happiness.

"Okay, well we should probably get some sleep. It's 2:25 AM. Good night, love you!"

"I love you too," he leans towards my stomach, "and I love you too, boy or girl."
