adeline stared down at the blank pregnancy test, feeling her heart jump in her throat. she paced the bathroom, trying desperately to calm herself down. what if it was true? how would she tell andrew? how would she tell rosalia? how would they take it? she glanced back over the pregnancy test, her eyes widening at the positive sign evident on the stick. she closed her eyes tightly, sitting down on the closed toilet seat as tears brimmed her eyes.

she was happy, she'd always wanted a child, a piece of herself and the man she loved. she always wanted to have her own child and prove that she was nothing like her parents, but the reality of it all scared the shit out of her.

"mama, uncle nate and sammy are here!" rosalias soft voice came from the other side of the bathroom door. "daddy wanted me to tell you we'll be on the back porch."

"okay, love. i'll be out there in a minute." adeline replied, hearing the child mumble an 'okay' before hearing her small feet hit against the floor as she ran outside.

adeline closed her eyes again, taking a deep breath before taking the pregnancy tests and throwing them away in the kitchen. she didn't want someone to accidentally find them in the bathroom and tell andrew before she was ready.

the woman leaned against the counter in the kitchen, putting her hand over her stomach. she closed her eyes, thinking about all the things to come and the child she was yet to have and the memories yet to be made. she smiled to herself before wiping the stray tears that were falling down her cheeks.

"uncle nateeee," rosalia giggled, drawing the boys name out. "i missed you."

nate picked the child up, holding her in his arms. he kissed her cheek, sending her a smile. "i missed you so much more, rose."

"you and uncle sammy and the jacks just stopped coming over after the— accident. i thought you guys left too." rosalia laid her head against his chest as he sat down in one of the porch chairs.

"rose," nate whispered, feeling his heart break at her words. "we would never just leave you, okay? never. not in a million years. you're like the daughter i never had. we just get busy sometimes."

rosalia nodded, thinking back to being in the hospital room with andrew and adeline and how none of the ones she also called family had stopped by. she got up from nate's arms, noticing everyone in their own conversations, watching nate join in as she walked away. she walked of the porch, going to sit on the side of the pool.

rosalia kicked the water softly, shivering slightly due to the cold temperature of the water. she started thinking of the accident, trying to remember every detail, but failed. the only part of it that she could vividly remember was getting in the car with her mother and the words she had spoken to her. nothing else.

rosalia closed her eyes, trying desperately to remember if zion or brandon or nate or sammy had come by, but nothing came to mind and it made her angry. she felt all this pent up sadness for something she could barely remember. rosalia stared down at the water, feeling her eyes brim with tears, but quickly wiped them away before someone could come down and see.

andrew stood up, going inside the house to check on adeline who had yet to make an appearance. he walked into the kitchen, seeing the girl leaning against the counter with her arms crossed. "baby?"

adeline visibly flinched at the sound of his voice. "yeah?"

andrew sent the girl a sad look. "are you okay?"

adeline nodded quickly, a little too quickly. "yeah, yeah. why wouldn't i be?" she tried to laugh it off, but he saw right through it.

andrew walked closer to the girl, pulling her into his arms. he wrapped his arms around her, feeling her lay her head against his chest. she let out a breath, feeling his fingers roam through her hair. "i love you, angel."

"i love you more." adeline mumbled, listening to his heartbeat. "i have to tell you something."

"whatever it is, i can tell it's stressing you out." andrew let out a soft chuckle, looking down into her chocolate orbs. "take your time, baby. i'm ready to hear it whenever you're ready to face it."
