"it's time to wake up, princess." andrew came into rosalia's room. rosalia let out a groan, pulling the blanket over her head. "oh, come on. i get to take you to school this morning."rosalia pushed the blanket down slightly, raising her eyebrows. "why? what's wrong with adeline?"
"she has a stomach ache. we're gonna let her rest, okay?" andrew sat on the edge of rosalia's bed, pushing her curls out of her face. "what're you gonna wear to school?"
"a dress." rosalia grinned, pointing to the dress hanging up on the other side of her room. "today's katherine's birthday. i even got z and brandon to take me and get her a present, wanna see it?" andrew smiled at his daughter, sending her a nod. rosalia jumped out of her bed, reaching under her bed and grabbed a small box. "she had gotten me a bracelet when the— accident happened, so i got her a necklace. is it pretty?"
andrew studied the necklace, the man finding happiness in the way rosalia's features brightened while she spoke about katherine and the necklace. "it's beautiful, princess."
"do i look pretty?" rosalia asked as she came into zions bedroom. "you like my hair? i got kékéli to do it since adeline's sick."
"you look beautiful, rose." zion grinned as he threw a hoodie on over his shirt. "you have your gift for katherine ready?"
"yeah, i put it in the car already so i wouldn't forget it." rosalia looked around the familiar bedroom, her smile falling off her features. "you think she'll say yes? what if she says no and never talks to me again? or thinks i'm weird."
zion felt a frown tug at his lips at the child's words. "rose, katherine loves you. she'd be a fool if she didn't say yes. plus, edwin may have told me something."
"what is it?"
"can't tell you, but it guarantees she'll say yes. i promise." zion said, putting his hand out to the child. rosalia took his hand in her own, following behind him as they made their way into the living room. "this is where we say bye, kiddo. i'll see you after school. i'm expecting every detail."
rosalia let out a giggle at the older boys words, not noticing the presence of brandon, elom, and kékéli. "i'm expecting the details too, missy." rosalia rolled her eyes playfully at elom's words, but nodded nevertheless.
"good luck, lil bit." brandon said, walking up to the child. rosalia hugged the boy before watching zion and brandon leave the house.
"it'll be great, rose." kékéli reassured the nervous child. she sent her a smile before leaving the room as well, elom following behind his sister.
rosalia looked around the empty living room, feeling her heart race. she was beyond nervous despite knowing she didn't have a reason to be. she knew her father was cleaning out his car from the weekend before, so she knew she had a few minutes before they were to leave. the child walked to adeline and andrews room, peaking her head into the room. she saw adeline sitting in the bed, her laptop in her lap. "adeline?"
"rose? oh, you look so pretty." adeline smiled, watching the child walk into the room the rest of the way. "where's your fathe—"
"cleaning out the car." rosalia cut the woman off. "i'm asking katherine today. it's her birthday."
"you're nervous?" adeline tilted her head, sending the child a sympathetic look. "you know you have no reason to be, baby."
"i know. i just— i don't want her to say no." rosalia frowned, sitting on the edge of the bed. "i spent all my saved up money for that necklace. what if she doesn't like it?"
"baby, i know katherine will love it and she'll say yes and you'll come home wondering why you were even scared in the first place." adeline smiled. "wanna know something?" rosalia sent the woman a nod as adeline closed her laptop, putting it to the side. "i grew up terrified of ever making the first move, terrified of rejection or embarrassment. when i started college and i met kehlani, she told me one time that life doesn't wait. if you want something, go for it. if it's meant to be, it will happen. if it's not, it won't. don't be scared to do this because you think you'll be rejected or embarrassed. i promise you, katherine likes you just as much as you like her, maybe even more. who was the one who kissed who first?" adeline grinned, moving to sit next to the child. rosalia laid her head against the woman, grabbing her hand in her own.
"thank you, mama— i mean—"
"it's okay, rose." adeline cut the child off. she pressed a kiss on rosalia's head, pushing a loose curl behind the child's ear. "today will be one to remember. tell katherine i said happy birthday."
"you'll be fine, rose." andrew whispered, pushing a loose curl behind the child's ear. "you better tell me all about it when you get home."
rosalia bit her bottom lip, crossing her arms. "i will, unless she says no. then i'm going to act like it never happened."
andrew let a soft laugh leave his lips. "she'll say yes, princess." rosalia didn't reply, just nodding her head. she peaked inside the classroom, seeing katherine sitting in her seat. she stared at the other child for a moment, admiring her. rosalia adored the way katherine would stick her tongue out a little when she was concentrated and the way her laugh sounded, especially when she was the reason behind the honoret child being so giggly. "go get the girl, rose."
