Chapter 3

Sam's POV

Colby hugged me. I was surprised considering what I've done. Then I felt wetness on my shirt & knew he was crying. I felt my heart break. This is my fault. I held him tight feeling so bad. I'm gonna make a promise to myself right now. I'm never gonna kill anyone again & when I can trust myself not to kill. I will find Colby again. Colby soon let out a semi-loud sob & then pulled away.

"I'm sorry." He wiped his eyes.

"No its fine. I understand. Um......... I know you miss your daughter. So how about I help you pack then you go ahead & call your Uber early?" I suggested. He considered it.

"I guess. But will you come with me?" What!?

"What?" I asked him.

"Look it sounds weird I know. But if you come with me I won't go home to an empty house. I don't want to go home alone to an empty house please. You'll have somewhere to stay & you'll be safe away from your family." I thought about it.

"If your sure." He nodded. 

"I can see the good in you. You don't want to hurt me. Or Brinlee." He spoke softly.

"Okay." I helped him pack up his stuff & he looked shocked at how the room looked like it did before everything happened. "What was Brennen looking for in those drawers?" I asked him.

"We have a gun in a lock box in one of the drawers. In case someone breaks in & tries to kill us." He chuckled the last part. I let out a small laugh.

"Must work real well."

"Believe it or not it did for awhile." He laughed. We then finished packing his stuff in silence & he grabbed the picture off the wall. "This was a good day you know?" He said.

"I can tell. You guys look happy."

"Well after it was the day before Brinlee started her new school. So we went out to spend the day with her. So what happened was we went to get ice cream & went to the the park & then went to the beach. This was taken at the beach in the sand." He smiled at the picture. It was Brennen sitting on the ground with Colby on his knees behind him with Brinlee on his hip. "I have another on my phone from that day." He said pulling out his phone. He showed me a picture but was just him & Brinlee. She was on his back smiling widely & Colby was standing in the water smiling widely as well. I smiled.

"She has the brightest smile." I told him. He chuckled.

"Yeah well. Shes had it since she was born. No seriously the only difference is now she has teeth." He told her. I laughed.

"You know. Your a pretty happy person." I told him.

"Only because Brinlee. I used to be a depressed emo before her (A/N: Legit me. I'm emo af)." I nodded. "I think we got everything. Let me call an Uber." He sat on the bed & pulled up the Uber app. He ordered an Uber & it was 5 minutes away. He looked up from the phone & his eyes locked on the picture on his nightstand. It was him & Brennen. Brennen was on the ground & Colby was behind him with his arms wrapped around his shoulders & Colby was kissing Brennen's cheek. There was another next to it. Brennen & Colby were sitting in a tree kissing. Ironic. I walked over towards him.

"What are the stories behind these?" I asked him. He pointed at the one of them on the ground.

"We first started dating & I had a photo shoot. Brennen was sitting there all bored so I got the photographer to take this one of us before he left. We never posted it or anything. It was just for us. This one was for an announcement post. We put it on our Instagram's with the caption 'Colby & Brennen sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G.' That was 4 months into our relationship. Before things went bad. Things didn't go bad until Brennen's dad contacted him then all his pent up anger came out at me. That was after a year together. 6 months after we got Brinlee. Then you know the story pretty well." He looked down at his phone. According to this the Uber is here." He peaked his head out the window.

"Is it there?" I asked.

"Yeah. Come on." We walked out & got in the back of a red SUV with leather interior & wooden accents on the inside & bronze accents on the outside. We sat in silence till we got to Colby's house.

~The Next Day~

About noon I decided to go over to Ms. Taylor's house. Sam stayed behind. I pulled up to her house & knocked lightly.

"Colby! Hi! Brinlee is at school for 2 more hours don't forget to pick her up!" She said & pulled me into a hug.

"I'm actually on my way to pick her up early. I left yesterday though. Brennen didn't want me there so I left."

"Well I still can't contact him. So if I don't hear from him by tomorrow I'm going out there." I just nodded. 

"Well I just wanted to stop by & thank you for picking Brinlee up from the airport yesterday & dropping her off this morning. It means a lot."

"It wasn't a problem. She was a sweetheart as per usual." I smiled. "You boys have been raising her right." 

"Thank you. Well I'm gonna go." She smiled & waved before going back inside. I got back in my car & drive to Brinlee's school.

Brinlee's POV

I don't care for 1st grade that much. Its boring. I miss my daddies. Suddenly the teacher called my name.

"Brinlee?"

"Ma'am?" I asked her.

"Someone is here to pick you up." I nodded & packed my school bag. I walked down front & seen my Daddy! I ran & jumped into his arms.

"DADDY! YOU'RE BACK! Is Dad with you?" I asked hopeful.

"No baby. You see what happened is Dad & I went away for a bit because we don't get along well anymore. Well he wanted me to give him some time alone. So I came back home & he stayed here. Did you have fun with grandma?"

"Oh. But I miss him. I had lots of fun with grandma! We played games & watched movies. I got to play with Koki & Foxy!"

"Oh you're so lucky!" Daddy said as we walked out the door. He picked me up. "Now Daddy has someone at the house. Don't be rude & just know he'll be there for awhile."

"Did you replace Dad?"

"No honey! Of course not! Hes just someone I know & he needed somewhere to stay for awhile. Nobody can ever replace your Dad."

"Promise?" I asked.

"Pinkie Promise." He held his pinkie up & wrapped it with mine & I giggled.

Sam's POV

Colby left to get Brinlee so I was looking at all the pictures on the mantel of Brinlee. She was cute. But as the pictures went on you could see the distance growing between Brennen & Colby. The door opened.

"Sam? We're back." I walked around the corner. "Brinlee this is Sam. Sam this is Brinlee." She was shy & hid her face in Colby's neck since he was holding her.

"Hi Brinlee. You know your Daddy has been talking about you nonstop." She giggled lightly.

"He talks to everyone about me."

"Thats because your a big part of my life." He kissed her cheek. She erupted in giggles. Colby put her down & she ran to her room.

"Shes so sweet." I told him.

"Thanks. We tried."

"Has she asked about Brennen?"

"Yep. I hate lying to her. But it wasn't really a lie if I think about it. Brennen did want to split up. But he didn't want to stay there. He wanted to come back & take her." He whispered to me. He sat on the couch.

"He can't do that now." I whispered sitting next to him. He nodded.

"I know." I was looking at him & he looked at me & our eyes locked.
