Annabelle's POV:
"Don't fucking talk to her like that" Carter threatens as his steps from the front door and closer to Matt and I. I am utterly lost for words. "W-When?" I asked still struggling to keep my nerve as Matt turns around with a smile with his arms folded and says, "when you guys were locking lips behind the lockers I fucking saw it all". I knew it. I bloody knew it. Someone had been there. It hadn't been the janitor. "I gave Carter the ultimatum of you or Danny and he chose Dan" he said eyeing up Carter, "No Annabelle it wasn-" before Carter could come out with whatever he was going to say Matt spoke over him and said, "I would never do that to you Bells". I snapped.
"Matt fuck you! You and I will never happen because you treat women like shit and like they are something to own and I will never belong to you!" Matt eyebrows furrowed at me as I turned to Carter and said, "as for you, you should've explained that you wanted nothing to do with me because Matt fucking saw us and you were embarrassed scared or whatever the hell was going through your mind!". When I'd finished ranting I was panting heavily because these boys had it coming for them as Carter came closer and said, "Annabelle let me explain.. It wasn't as simple as that and Matt just wanted you for him fucking self and I see that now!" Carter's face had furrowed as he turned to face Matt who responded, "but they still always fall for fucking you!", as he then proceeded to throw a punch towards Carter.
I screamed as Matt's fist collided with the side of Carter's head. He hit the ground immediately but was up in a heartbeat. Carter ran at Matt's torso and brought them both crashing down as I ran over to try and intervene to stop these two former best friends from fighting. It made me sick to think that this was because of me. Had I led Matt on in the wrong way? Could I have changed anything if I had ignored my feelings for Carter? Or if I had ignored him completely. However they were all 'ifs' and we were in the now and right now I was trying to pull Matt from Carter. My upper body strength was not the best per say but the fact it didn't seem to be moving Matt's mass even slightly was infuriating. I pulled one more time with all I had but Matt flung me backwards with a brush of his arm sending me spiralling into the gravel. "Annabelle!" Carter shouted towards me as I looked up from my defeated position and watched his eyes go from the beautiful emerald to full on black as he punched and punched and punched Matt.
Matt was swinging in a few punches but Carter was also and I was unsure of who was probably more wounded in this instance. Me trying to help physically was futile so in that moment I did what any scared, helpless girl would do... I screamed at the top of my lungs. "Help!". I heard footsteps from my last as my father and Carter's father came hurling down the road between the two boys scrapping on the floor. Carter's father went straight for Carter and my father for Matt as they tried to pry each one off of each other. I could feel my right elbow and knees beginning to bruise from how I'd hit the floor and my lip tasted of blood but nothing mattered as I watched the boys still scraping to get another punch in.
This was all my fault. I had been unclear. I had gotten involved and again I did what any typical teenage girl would have done in this moment. I cried and I ran in the opposite direction. I had no clue where I was going, when I would get to where I was going but my feet were taking me somewhere and I just let them have control.
I had stopped running a while ago when I had found myself in an unfamiliar street. It was probably unfamiliar due to how dark it was slowly getting but my awareness of time and contact with others disappeared upon the revelation that I had lost my phone. I presumed it had fallen out my pocket when I had fell on the floor but I wasn't sure. I hadn't realised it had fell out and to be honest it was on the bottom of my priority list at the time. I walked for around another 20 minutes until I came to a place I did recognise. A place that reminded me of home. Clavince Park - my home away from home.
