The house was empty when Clair and Jason got home. Clair knew that her parents probably took the boys to the park, but what she was more surprised that Stella was not around too.

Thank god. Clair thought. Ever since Stella appeared, Jason has been paying more attention to her. She tried getting Jason to leave Stella at his apartment when he came over, but he insisted on bringing her over every time! It didn't help that her mother wanted her to tag along too.

“You're so beautiful.” Jason said, as he moved a piece of her blonde hair behind her ear.

Clair blushed and hugged his bare body closer to hers. “And you're hot.”

“Not as hot as you are.” He winked.

“Don't sell yourself short.” She said.

“You're way hotter.”

“I'm not that great.” Jason admitted. “Just an average looking dude, who got lucky.”

It was actually, the other way around, Clair wasn't much to look at. She could barely stay at her ideal weight, she had stretch marks all over her stomach, and she could see the youthful beauty starting to drain from her face. She wasn't young like Jason was anymore.

Clair passionately kissed him. “You're perfect.”

“If only Stella thought that.” Jason said.

“What does that mean?” Clair huffed.
Jason ran his fingers through his dark hair. “Just that she’s still kind of wary towards me. I don't get it, I haven't done anything to her.”

“Jason, have you ever considered that maybe she just doesn't want to be here?”

“Well yeah, but we both agreed that she should wait until the spring.” He said.

“But maybe she’d rather leave now.” Clair said.

Jason shook his head. “I can’t do that, she’ll die out there.”

“She’ll die out there anyways.” Clair snapped. “Do you think she won't be in danger when it's Spring but it's something she wants. So why not just let her go?”

“Because… I'm hoping to find an alternative option for her.” Jason admitted.

“Like what?” She asked.

“Like maybe… she stays.” He said.

Clair wanted to scream at Jason, but she could only feel her heart slowly shattering after he said those words. She could see herself losing him. “Jason… don't get attached to someone who plans on leaving.”

“I understand.” He said as he embraced her.

Clair held Jason close, realizing that she may have to heed her own words.
