Mathew and Cindy liked each other but they didn't want to tell the group because of a certain person that likes Mathew. The days have been going by fast and they still hadn't told anyone about the fact that they like each other but Matthew does have some suspicions that Elizabeth knows, but he doesn't confront her or anything of the sort. They did stop shipping them though and so it was easier for them to keep it a secret.
