Once I parked in front of the diner called Carver Cafe. I get both Anna and I out of the car, I pick her up and I set her on my hip.
"Ready to go eat, and make some acquaintances." I asked Anna.
She nods her head, and smiles up at me. This is the most Anna has ever smiled in her life, before when we were with our parents. She never smiled, but once Uncle Charlie got us out of that situation. She has been slowly coming out of the protective shell, that both of us have.
I know Anna, she is such a bright, smart, and beautiful little girl. She is so fun to be around, she can put a smile on anyone's face just by smiling. Since moving to Forks, her bright personality is slowly coming out. It may take a while before all of it will come out in full force.
Me, I have to put on a brave face on for Anna. At least for now, I am her role model now. I have to seem like nothing can get me down on the outside, but on the inside I can freak out all I want.
I also took full custody of Anna, so she is mine. Anna calls me Momma because I treated her with gentleness that is what mother's are suppose to do with their children.
Once I enter the Cafe, I can definitely tell that it is a favorite place to hang out to people. The place is packed with what looks to be guys that got off work, I look to my watch to see that it is 5:30pm on a Friday.
It makes sense, I look around the place to see if I can see a open booth anywhere. As I was looking an older lady walks up to us with a gentle smile on her face.
"Hello Dears! Welcome to Carver Cafe! If you will please follow me, I will take you to a booth." She said lively.
I nodded and I follow her to our booth without bumping into anyone, while what looks like to be a old football game on.
"Here you are dearies, I will be right back with a booster seat and your menus." The older women says before leaving to grab what we need.
While she does that, I set Anna on the booth seat. I grab my wallet from my purse, before I put it against the wall on my side.
Anna stands up on the seat, but I look at her with a "No" look. She noticed and sits back down on her butt. Three minutes later, the women came back with her arms full.
(Play song)
I walk over to her, "I can take the booster for you." I said as I grab the booster out of her hands. The older women gives me a smile of thanks.
"Thank you Dear, I would have been here sooner but it is a little packed." She said with a little giggle.
"No worries, I totally don't mind at all." I say with a smile. I put the booster seat between my purse and me. Once I put the seat down, I help Anna sit down.
"Okay, now. What do you dears want to drink?" She asked getting her notebook and pen ready.
"A milk for her, and a sweet tea for me, please." I tell her looking at her.
Now I have a good look at our waitress. She is a older lady in her seventies, she is a white lady with gray hairs wrapped in a bun behind her head. She wears glasses that hangs out at the bottom of her nose. Her outfit is all pink but her apron is white.
"Okay, here are the menus and I will go get your drinks." The waitress Shelly says.
As she leaves, I quickly reach over and I grab a bunch of napkins knowing full well that Anna makes a mess. Then I open one of the menus, and I show Anna the kids choices.
After five minutes looking at the menu, we both decided what we wanted. So to pass the time, I take out some Barbie princess that I bought for Anna on the way here.
As Anna plays with her barbies, I hear the front door opening. My eyes travel over to the front door to see the Chief of Police, Charlie Swan.
He stands by the door looking around before he looks over towards me. I look over at Anna who is happily content with playing with her barbies.
"Well, she is a cutie ain't she?" I hear a man asked me. I turn to see Charlie standing in front of our table, looking over at Anna.
"Yeah, and she knows it too." I say sharing a giggle with the Chief.
"Is she yours?" He asked me.
"Well I took custody her, so it makes her mine but she is my little sister biologically." I tell him still looking at Anna.
Once Anna looks up at me, she notices a new person at the table. She starts to lean in towards me, and becomes shy. I smile, I rub my hand down her back in a soothing matter.
"Anna, this Charlie Swan the Chief of Police. Can you say hi?" I asked her still rubbing her back.
Anna leans away for a moment saying hi and goes back to leaning into me. Both Charlie and I share another giggle.
"Are you guys new in town?" He asks us. I nod my head, "Yes, we are staying in one of our Uncle's houses up a mile out of town." I tell him.
He thinks for a moment, "Who is your Uncle?" He asked.
Before I could answer, Shelly came back with our drinks. She slides over Anna's drink that is in a plastic cup with a straw sticking out of the lid. Then she slides over my sweet tea, Next she takes out her notebook and pen.
"Okay dears, did you decide what you are having?" She asked.
"Yup, Anna would take the chicken tenders and fries and I will take a chicken sandwich with no tomato please." I tell her while grabbing the menus.
Once she finishes writing down the order, she grabs the menus and walks away.
"To answer your question, My Uncle is Charles Neilson." I tell him.
"Oh so your Charles's niece he was talking about. Well it is nice to meet you, and I must ask this. Is that your '67 Chevy Impala outside?" He asked.
I nodded my head, "Yes, it is. I also got a carseat for miss Anna in the back seat, so it is legal for me to drive on the roads." I tell him with a smile on my face.
He nods his head with a proud look on his face. I smile, then I see Shelly with our food.
"Anna, our food is here. So hand me the toys, so you can eat." I ask her gently. She hands me her dolls, and I put them on top of my purse.
Shelly sets down the plates, and I slide Anna's plate to her. Shelly slides my plate to in front of me, "Thank you Shelly." I thank her.
I grab the ketchup and I pour some on Anna's plate next to her fries. She smiles before grabbing fries off of her plate and starts to eat.
~Twenty Minutes later~ I chatted with Charlie as we ate our food, surprisingly Charlie has a daughter named Bella that is going to stay with him. While his ex-wife is traveling with her new husband, so I will probably see her at school.
Once Anna was done eating, I get up from the booth. I asked Charlie if he wouldn't mind watching Anna while I go pay for the meal. He said it was okay, so I quickly paid for the meal. Then we said goodbye to Charlie and we headed back home.
So we could bring in the boxes that were in the back of my Impala. So I can drive it to school on Monday, which reminds me I have to find a sitter for Anna.
I will have to worry about that tomorrow, it was dark by the time we got back home. Anna was already asleep in her carseat, so I carried her upstairs to her room. I put her in some warm PJ's, and I cuddled her into the blankets.
I turned off the lights but I turned on her nightlight. I walk into my room, and I get ready for bed. I get into bed, and I watch some Tv before I head to bed.
