17. An Infiltration of the Utmost Importance

Hey guys, I'm back!  I know it's been a couple months since I've updated, but as most of you know, school doesn't give you much time to do hobbies.  But now it's winter break, so I thought that I should update at least one chapter, if not more before these calm days morph back into busy ones.  I hope you enjoy the chapter!

There was an outburst from some of the men, the murmuring of words and shaking of heads being apparent throughout the circle.

Finally managing to quiet everyone down, RM stood up. "Here's the plan. You're not going to like it though. This next part will take a lot of stamina and determination. We are headed towards the Alyssian Headquarters. The Alyssians are a group of assassins that serve whoever they deem fit with the money to supply them. Currently, they have sided with no one in the war, since they don't want to get involved in anything as messy as a civil war. I forgot to mention this before, but we're not just sneaking past their base. We're going to infiltrate it, because we need some useful items and information they have. I know, not the best idea, especially if we need them on our side, but they won't hand over what we want if we kindly ask. The specifics will be dealt with tomorrow as we move closer to the headquarters. Get a good night of sleep, you'll need it for tomorrow."

Sensing this was the end of the conversation, everyone crept into their tents for the night. You were about to fall asleep, then realized you still hadn't decided what to do about Yoongi's feelings for you. Choosing to forgo your feelings and rational thoughts for the time being, you drifted off to sleep, hoping you could sleep peacefully.

The next morning came too quickly for your liking, but there was nothing you could do about it as you listened in on RM's plan.

"Today, we're going to reach the headquarters around noon, so I need to assign your roles.  But first, in order to get in, we'll need to go in through the underground tunnels.  The Alyssians built their headquarters on a cliff that drops abruptly all the way down to the ocean, so we'll get into the tunnels by going through a pipe in the cliff face that's on the side of where the ocean is.  From there, we'll split into teams.  Jungkook, Yoongi, you guys will be infiltrating the computer room to uncover some information.  Jungkook, you ensure Yoongi isn't injured in your trek to the computer room, and Yoongi, make sure the information is completely retrieved; you know which one.  Jimin and Hoseok, you guys go grab the weapons we need, and try not to sound the alarm like last time."  At this, you look at RM inquisitively, but he chooses to forgo your questioning stare and continues.

"Taehyung and Jin, you will be the distraction, keeping a close eye on our separate groups and bringing focus away from us in case any assassins are about to come across our little venture.  That means me and you, Y/N, will be sneaking into one of their closely guarded rooms, to figure out their intentions and also, if possible, smuggle some items out with us.  It will also be a good test of your powers.  Now, if there are no questions, which I assume there isn't, let's go."

RM's plan was a sound plan, you had to admit, but you were still skeptical of what morals these men were going by, especially their leader, to justify this blatant robbery of an organization.  Sighing, you set off with them, sure that whatever these ethics were, there would be no use in inquiring about it and getting into a heated debate if you were just going to tag along anyways.

It was already noon before you knew it, and a tall, metallic building came into view; large rectangular slabs of gray, shiny material of different lengths slapped together, balancing on their ends to create an abstract, asymmetrical picture of. . .you actually didn't know what to call it.  It actually irritated you the slightest bit, but you weren't going to worry yourself over a building that looked as if its blueprints had been drawn by a very drunk architect.

The little procession you were in stopped, and RM gathered everyone close to discuss the plans one more time.  You had the nerve to roll your eyes at Taehyung's question of, if there was a potential assassin about to attack one of the others, he could hug them and calm them down with a nice cup of tea and a chat about their life story to convince them they didn't need to follow this lifestyle.  You could tell RM was exasperated with this question, as he had probably dealt with this type of off-the-topic blather that Taehyung was prone to spitting out at the worst times possible.

Finally, after assuring V multiple times that all he had to do was knock the assassin unconscious, your group edged itself around the giant rock face to a gaping hole where a pipe had been placed.

Gazing into the yawning darkness, you realized that you weren't too keen to step foot in their first, and gladly let Jimin and J-Hope take the lead.

The tramp through the rusted pipe was neither short nor long, but your surroundings as you got further and further into the belly of the cliff made you wary.

Strange noises echoed through the tunnels, enhanced by the pipes and their cylindrical shape, and more than once a splatter of rancid, sickly-green water fell upon your head, to your displeasure.  Rattling of the pipes was common, you and the members found out, and a strong smell that was suspiciously similar to sulfur invaded your nostrils.

"I would think that assassins with this good of a reputation would have better sewer systems," you remarked, wrinkling your noise after the mucus-like water dripped onto your head for the third time.

"They think it's below themselves to clean something this disgusting, and they'd rather spend the money they earn for their kills on other things than maids," Jin offered, glancing your way.

"Fair enough," you replied, returning your attention to the walk ahead of you.

Your saving grace was a ladder that led upwards, a hole through the ceiling of a pipe providing space for it to stretch its limbs up to where the headquarters surely lay.

One after another, you and the council of Wonderland climbed hand over hand up the ladder, ending up in a janitor room.

Raising an eyebrow at Jin as he climbed up the ladder, you admonished, "I thought they didn't bother to clean, Seok-jin."

Putting up his hands in defense, he said, "Don't quote me on anything I say.  I'm pretty sure this broom closet is only for accidents anyways, not for a general New-Star cleaning."

Giving him a questioning look, he added, "I'll explain the concept of our holidays and seasons later."

"That's if we get out of here without being flayed alive," you mutter.

"As if!  You'll be fine," says Jin, practically scoffing at the prospect of being found by Wonderland-class assassins, stealing their private information and property.

Rolling your eyes for the second time that day, the rest of the members soon came up the ladder and into the closet.

"Are you guys ready?" asked RM.

"Yeah!" you yelled, along with the others, excited, if minimally, at the adrenaline of sneaking into a heavily guarded base.

Everyone put their hands into the middle, one on top of the other.

Feeling as if you were working in unison for the first time since this journey began, all at once your voice, mixing with the others, let out a "Break!", and up the hands went.

And that's the end of the chapter!  I'm sorry if it's too short or not up to your expectations, but I've been feeling slightly under the weather and this might be more of a filler chapter, depending on your interpretation.  I'll update as soon as possible, hopefully in the next couple of days.  Merry Christmas, by the way, as it is Christmas Eve I'm updating this chapter on, and with any other things you celebrate, I hope it's a jolly time of the year!
