C H A P T E R F I V E

I came home and my mom was already waiting by the door with that certain stern mom look.

"(Y/n), you better explain yourself right now young lady!"

"I got caught drinking with friends.."

I felt myself shrinking at her yelling. I felt embarrassed to say the least. I stayed silent the entire time she was lecturing me.

"Your school called me today, you're so lucky they made a final decision to not kick you and your little friends out of school."

"Jesus (Y/n).."

She sighed and left the living room, probably to finish off another bottle of red wine in her bedroom. It was really becoming a problem.

I later found out that I was only suspended for a day. So I just stayed home, in my room per usual. I was reading To Kill a Mockingbird when I felt my cellphone vibrating on my nightstand. It was a text from Tom, weird.

TOMMY

Look out your window!! :)

I put my phone down with pure confusion and walked over to my window. I pulled apart my blinds and saw Tom not to far down below waving his arms like an idiot.

"Hey! I still have a date to take you on (n/n)!"

He tried keeping his voice down and had the goofiest smile on his face. I sigh and climbed out of my window. I swung my legs over to a smaller roof that covered over my backyard door and jumped down to face Tom.

"Well, where to Delonge?"

   Tom had driven us in his pickup truck. I had no idea where we were going but I enjoyed his company nonetheless, we started talking about music again. I guess a couple of days ago Tom met some freshman kid in a battle of the bands competition during lunch. His name was Scott, and they started talking and I guess they wanted to form a band with Mark.

  "You know I was thinking of band names, what do you think about Duct-tape?"

He looked away from the road for a second and gave a smirk. I started laughing and he just looked confused.

  "What kind of name is that Tommy?!"

Tom blushed at the sudden nickname and was laughing with me.

"What?! It sounded good at the time.. Oh! I know what about Tom and Fuck-tards inc."

He gave me a eyebrow lift and a rainbow hand gesture, we started bursting out into tears. I thought I was going to piss myself. I've never laughed that hard in my life before.

We eventually stopped at a drive in movie theatre.

"Never would have pegged you for a classic movie date kind of guy, Tom."

I poked his cheek and smiled. He smiled back and exited the car to grab some snacks. I saw a blue hoodie in the backseat. As would any normal person wouldn't do, I put it on. It was obviously huge for my small stature but it was cozy. I hopped out of the car and sat in the bed of the truck, with my knees hugging my chest. I heard footsteps coming towards my way and Tom stood beside next to the car with an armful if candy and popcorn.

"You know, I could really get used to you wearing my clothes, or you know none at all."

He winked at me which caused my heart to practically jump out of my very being. I came back with a sarcastic comment,

  "How flattering."

He climbed in the back and set the goodies in front of us as the movie played. Halfway into the movie Tom moved away from my right side and moved so I was between his legs and he wrapped his arms around my waist. He then rested his head on top of my head. It was very comforting, it felt like home. I could smell his intoxicating cologne and it drove me crazy, but I got used to it pretty quickly.

  After the movie we threw away our garbage and candy wrappers. We made our way into the pickup truck and drove down to San Diego. I turned on the radio and the Decedents came on and I just turned it up a little bit. The cold air of San Diego was ultimately refreshing and I felt so down to Earth. It was cold outside but I felt warm, and having Tom with me felt so right. I grabbed his hand that wasn't on the wheel and held onto it. He squeezed my hand and stared ahead at the empty lit up road and we just kept driving.

I felt infinite.
