CHAPTER 14: THANK YOU FOR BEING MY FRIEND

JACK

The following day, Ana doesn't come to school and doesn't answer her phone which just about gives me a heart attack.

I'm worried and my mind is driving me crazy with different scenarios.

Did Jeremy do something? Is she hurt? Sick? Or worse, did she get kidnapped again?

As sick and twisted as this sounds, I want to be the one to kidnap her. So at least I can make sure she's safe and I know exactly where she is.

I told you it was sick and twisted.

Towards the end of the day, I find out why Anna was absent.

Over the PA system, Mrs Downey's voice echoes, "Can we all proceed to the multipurpose hall for a quick assembly, we have very special guests"

I follow the rest of the student body to the hall used for assemblies, graduation ceremonies and the occasional plays and presentations.

I sit at the edge of the last row, taking a break from worrying about Ana to wonder what's going on.

Mrs Downey climbs the podium and the hall falls quiet.

"Good day everyone" she greets and doesn't wait for a reply before continuing, "As I mentioned earlier, we have very special guests, can we please welcome Her Royal Highness, Princess Anastasia Elizabeth Amelia Eleanor Winsdale"

Shock paralyzes me as she qracefully walks up to stand beside the director.

They exchange a quick hug and Mrs Downey leaves the stage as Ana takes her place.

She smiles politely, waiting for the clapping to cease and for those standing to take their seats.

I'm still stunned, just looking at her. She's dressed in a white short sleeved semi formal dress  and black heels. Her long blonde hair is styled so that the top half is held back in a bun and the bottom half flowing down her back in soft waves. She has natural make up on and she looks so confident. There is absolutely no trace of the shy, quiet Ana Polins, this is Anastasia Winsdale, the princess of England. She's beautiful, classy bold and authoritative. As she starts to speak, I realize that she even sounds different.

"Hello everyone" she greets, "I hope you'll permit me to be a bit informal since we are after all, age mates"

There's a murmur of agreement and she continues talking.

"I was asked to speak to you all about something very important, bullying"

My head snaps to Mrs Downey's direction, does she know Ana's secret?

"Before I start though, how many of you have a friend?" Practically every hand goes up, but mine.

Ana's eyes are searching and they finally land on me. She raises an eyebrow at me and I roll my eyes and reluctantly raise my hand, she smirks before turning back to everyone else.

"I won't ask for those that don't have friends, because if you're like me, you wouldn't want to be brought to everyone's attention" she says.

"Instead, I want you all to do something for me. If you look underneath your seats, you'll see a name on a slip, I want you to find the person the name belongs to. Even if you don't know the person, ask till you find them"
