Ch. 17

It's the day before their graduation. This is their last week of school, and they have to practice for their graduation. They were in the auditorium to get cleared for graduation. Khalid, Jaden, and Amandla sat on the stage.

"I'm so excited to graduate." Amandla says.

"Hell, I'm happy to get the Hell outta here." Jaden added.

Khalid and Amandla laughs.

"Y'all laughing, but I'm for real."

Jacob walks to them. Khalid sighs.

"Awhl shit." Jaden says.

"What do you want, Jacob?" Khalid asked.

"Hm, so you're graduating, huh?"

"Yes, something that you're not doing." Jaden said.

"Why don't you leave Khalid alone?" Amandla said.

"How's that kiss with Kendall?" He smirks.

Khalid didn't say anything.

"How did you know?" Jaden asked.

"Because he had something to do with it." Khalid said.

He walks up to him and pushed him on the ground. Everyone looked at him. It got quiet. One of the staff ran to the situation.

"What's going on here?"

"Khalid pushed me to the ground for no reason." Jacob cried, sounding like he was really hurt.

"No, you came over to mess with him." Amandla barked.

"No Amandl-"

"No Khalid, I'm sick and tired of him bullying you!" Amandla cuts him off.

"Can't you expel him for pushing me, since it's so close to graduation?" Jacob asked.

"Get up and get out, you're not supposed even be here anymore." The lady says.

Jacob looks at Khalid, and gets up. He leaves the auditorium.

"You okay, Khalid?"

"Yes ma'am." He answers.

The lady went on her way. Ella Mai was sitting there the whole time, watching it all go down. He walks to her.

"Hey."

"Hey baby."

He sits with her.

"So you saw everything?"

"Everything from the beginning." She said.

"I'm really sorry about all of this."

"You have no reason to be, Khalid."

He smiles. Jaden and Amandla came to them.

"All good Khalid?" Jaden asked.

"All good bro."

They gave each other's gap.

"What was that all about?" Amandla asked.

"Just Jacob being an asshole."

"Shouldn't he be in jail after what he did to Ella Mai?"

"He got connections." Khalid sighs.

"He can rot in Hell." Ella Mai spat.

Khalid comforts her. She falls in his arms.

"Don't worry babe, he ain't gonna hurt you ever again."

"I know baby."

She wraps her arms around him.

"So ready to get my cap and gown!" Amandla exclaims.

"Agreed, babes!"

She laughs. Khalid checks his phone. His mother texted him.

Hey hun, when you get home, I got a surprise for you and your friends

Khalid smiles at his screen. Ella Mai looks at it.

"What is it babe?"

"My ma said she got a surprise for all of us when I get back home." He answered.

His friends smiled.

"Ooooh I wonder what it is?"

"Same." Khalid thought.

"Y'all, let's go get our stuff." Amandla tells them.

They nodded, and went to the table, where they were giving out caps and gowns.

Later that day...

Khalid and his friends drove back to his house. They exited his car, and walked to his front door. He stood there, taking deep breaths.

"Y'all, I'm nervous." He said.

Amandla laughs.

"It's okay, this gonna be a great surprise I'm sure."

"Not sure why I feel this nervous." He laughed.

He turns the knob, and slowly opened the door. As soon as it was open, he was surprised with a bunch of people shouting congratulations. There were balloons and confetti everywhere.

He smiled at the presence of happy family members. Some were his friends' family. The house was definitely full.

Khalid and all of their friends hugged everybody.

"Mama what is this?" Khalid asked.

"This is y'all pre-graduation party." She told him.

"Wow, a pre-graduation party? Who have those?"

"We do!"

"Good point."

After two hours, the party was over. Some people stayed over. Khalid's friends stayed over. It was 10 at night. Khalid say in the backyard patio, looking at his pool. The lights lit up the inside of the pool. Ella Mai, Jaden, and Amandla came to the backyard with him. Ella Mai sat on his lap. Jaden and Amandla grabbed a chair next to him.

"That was very nice of your mother." Amandla said.

"It was, who would've knew people have pre-graduation parties?" Jaden added.

"Yeah, my mom can be extra sometimes, remember middle school graduation?"

"Oooooh yeah, that was funny!" Jaden laughs.

"Yeah, but that's why I love my ma, even though I was embarrassed at that time."

"I wonder what she's gonna do for your high school graduation." Ella Mai said.

"Hmm... I wonder too." Khalid laughs.

They laughed with him.

They sat together, sharing their moment with each other.

"Can't believe graduation is tomorrow." Said Amandla.

"Yeah I know it's crazy right?" Jaden agrees.

"I'm just ready for the summer, you know?" Khalid says.

"You right dude, just because we graduate don't mean we don't get to turn up together over the summer."

"Exactly man."

"You boys are so funny." Ella Mai laughs.

"Y'all, let's go grab a bite to eat, yeah?"

"Together." Amandla tells them.

They agreed.
